Just checking something. I have two people telling me their A bodies came out of the factory with 9 1/4 axles in them. I've never heard of or seen this. Does anyone know about this? Did Mopar ever equip A bodies with this axle?

My bad that's what I thought he was talking about

My 1974 factory shop manual talks about the 9.25, but I don't see any mention of which vehicles it was in.

No they had Dana 60's

Otherwise known as a 9 3/4, which might explain the confusion. Seems to me that "back in the day" if you told a dealer OEM parts guy you had a Dana 60 he did not compute.

Good info, but flawed I had a 93 Dakota with a 5-speed and it had a 8.25 rear.
I bought it from local Dodge dealer, so it was the original rear.

Edit, I looked at the years wrong, you are probably correct.

I thought the Hemi automatic cars were 8 3/4.

I'm glad you edited it. I kept reading it and scratching my head!

A 9.25 is a very stout rear, never broke one.
Dad bought a 78 power wagon new off the car carrier (still has it) beat the **** out of the old truck, it still runs with 250k miles, cover never off the rear.

I have a 78 power wagon with the same rear I pull a 3,000 camper with about another 1,000 lbs in the bed alot in the summer so it is holding up so far.

In my past I beat a 77 RamCharger hard, with 44" tires, rear held up fine.

All trucks are 4-speeds

According to the 1968 Dart and Barracuda Hemi Super Stock Authenticity Guide written by Jim Schild and Larry Griffith. The 727 automatic cars had 8 3/4, the 4 speed cars got the Dana 60.

Das wut I wuz thinkin ^^^^^^

So did the B bodies. Hemi and 440-6 cars had Danas only if a 4 speed, or ordered optional in autos. Otherwise auto cars got the 8 3/4

Thanks guys, that's what I thought. Its a couple of guys in a fb group I'm in. Not trying to argue with them or prove them wrong, I just like to always increase my knowledge and figured since they're insisting that maybe it was something I was unaware of. I'm pretty sure they are mistaking their 8 1/4 axles for the 9 1/4. While I'm working on my knowledge, can you tell me if the /6 cars still used the 7 1/4 axles right up to the end of A body production in 76 or did the later A bodies all get the 8 1/4?
