Today I found a 74 dart with a factory sway bar. Junkyard gold!

Now the questions are.
1. Should I get the LCA's with the tabs on them or should I just mod the ones I have?
2. I haven't looked yet but should my 73 duster have the holes in the K-frame to mount the front of the bar?
3. Will I be able to remove the bar without taking the k-frame out of the car (can I slide it out one side or the other?)

I'm also thinking that the car might have the larger torsion bars, but haven't mic'd them yet

The bushings are all shot so where Can I get new ones.
thanks

If your a good welder or know someone that can do it for you I would just weld some tabs on the LCA. Used LCAs with the tabs arent cheap anymore.

I was considering picking them up but no way to I want to re-do the LCA bushings!

btw the price on the yard sheet says control arm - Car = $14.99 and sway/stut bar - Car = $19.99 MERRRRYYY CHRISSSSTMASSS!!

If you can get the lca's for $14 grab them. I sold a set 2 years ago for $125 and they needed bushings.

Dunno what LCA you have or what car but... The 73 K-member has the opening through for that bar and the bolt holes for the lil brackets the supports are bolted too. Yes the bar can be manuvered in and out . Now back to the LCA , the 73 up should have the tangs with holes for the end bushing kits. Bolt right in :)

I would grab the lower control arms as well. It will take less time to refurbish the correct control arms that it will to fabricate and weld on the tabs for the sway bar. I built some tabs for mineand welded them in, and trust me if I would have had the correct ones with the tabs I would have gladly gone that route (even if I had to change to LCA bushings).

All the bushings and parts are availble from Moog the bushings where the sway bar mounts to the frame is p/n K5241 and the end link kit is p/n K440.

Also make sure you get all the k-member mounting brackets too

thanks guys. My car is a 73 duster and my LCA's don't have the tangs. I guess I will have to suck it up and get whatever I can before the dart meets the crusher. It is funny to see what was done to the car before it made it to the yard, it has new tie rod ends and some new stuff under the hood ( pcv, valve cover breather) Also has some strange coil shocks in the rear but still has the leaf springs, but it's only a /6. I guess it was costing too much to keep on the road. damn shame too because the trunk floor is still solid

Grab it all!!! that's a really good deal on the LCA and sway bar.
/6 wont likely have an upgraded bar in it unless it has AC. Even then, I think it would be the standard v8 bars.

Does it have disc on it or are they gone? What about the upper control arms? If the uppers are there, grab them for me please. :toothy7:

The wheels are still bolted to the front and yes on the discs - almost a complete car. grille and all
I'll get as much as I can, money and time permitting. The dart looks to have been a pretty optioned car, fender top signals, rocker trim, wheel opening trim, plastic/wood dash stuff too along with A/C and sway bar, I better check.. it might have 8 1/4 rear ( guess that is just crazy talk)

damn. wife is gonna KILL me. sometimes better to beg forgiveness than ask permission

If the motor is out of it I would just drop the K frame and go. Un do the UCA bolts, Shocks, Yank the T bars and 4 bolts that hold in the K frame. You could have it out in under an hour.

Adam,

You don't even have to yank the t-bars. Take the tension off of them and beat the k-frame forward with a BFH. Knock them right out of the LCA's.

I love that part of disassembling a parts car. That and my sawzall... :axe: Chop chop!

This car is almost whole (very beat up mind you), I think the only things missing are the A/C compressor, some little electrical knick knacks under the hood, and the gas tank. It still has the engine bay braces. do those braces do anything?
