Fan clutch to radiator core distance?

Like the title says Thermal fan clutch (front to radiator) distance to radiator core ? What's acceptable ? Normal ? I'm about 7/16" tad less.

Generally the fan should be centered in the shroud.

Using the parts avail at the time,, my son's ended up less than a 1/4 in. away,, so we rigged a chain from the bellhousing to the trans cross-member,, so the fan can't contact the rad, if the car comes to an abrupt halt for some reason..

He's gone thru 2 summers without a shroud, never got near hot, stock copper rad.. if it helps..

Not asking about fan to shroud placement...Asking about the clearance between the radiator core to the fan clutch.

If running a Shroud, The fan blades should be halfway in the shroud. Following this will always put you where you need to be.....

If no shroud, I would shoot for around 1/2 inch give or take...need wiggle room for things to shift around during hard Accel or hard braking....

If you are not running a shroud you just need the fan far enough away from the radiator for it not to make contact.
