....nuts. @greymouser7
Would you kindly thank you Dad for me....again....
I would like to start with an apology....as this is rather long.
I finally got into see an Endocrinologist, the doc that specializes in hormones. I have been on Testosterone Replacement Therapy for a while now. When I took my first injection the Doug of old returned. All I could do was think about sex, and I was back to not being able to sit still, I had so much drive that I needed to be doing things...the effect was a bit short lived. Prior to my first injection my "T" levels were damn near off the bottom of the chart. After the first injection my "T" levels were damn near off the high end of the chart.
In time my energy levels dropped, as did my "T" numbers. My doc doubled the dose. This time no big energy spike.
During my last visit with my Rheumatologist the doc looked at my my most recent lab work. He told us that my Hemoglobin level is dangerously high, and that it is most likely due to my Testosterone Replacement Therapy. He referred me to see an Endocrinologist.
Finally got to see the endo on Friday.Doc took one look at my med list, in particular the dose of Testosterone I was on and immediately became concerned. He questioned if what I wrote was correct. Still not convinced had his staff call the pharmacy to verify it. He asked how long I have been on this dose. He informed us that based on the length of time I have been on this dose that it is very likely that my body has completely stopped production of Testosterone. He also said that there is no medical reason for me to be on such a high dose.
He looked at my Hemoglobin level from most recent blood test and said that I have a very serious problem. The level is high enough that I am at and extreme risk for a major coronary event and/or stroke.
He advised me to drink water, lots of it. He said not just the "8 glasses a day" recommendation but more like as much as I physically can.
When we asked what can be done to lower the Hemoglobin he said that depending on how high it is a few things are going to happen. If it is as high as it was on my last test he will be stopping the testosterone injections. May also send me to Cancer Care Northwest, apparently they can perform a procedure that removes the excessive Hemoglobin.
Doc also told us that the deck is really stacked against me in regards to my testosterone problems.
1. Age lowers testosterone. I will 52 in April so....
2. Opioids lower testosterone. I have no choice but to be on them. Without them I can not even get out of bed.
3. Excessive fat lowers testosterone. I am obese so...
4. Sleep apnea lowers testosterone. While back a member here started a post claiming that the "whole sleep study?cpap machine thing was a bunch of BS and just a way to scam money from the insurance companies and us" you may want to do some actual research. There were several members who sided with him...so if any of you that sided with this member you may want do some research...just saying. During my sleep study I had 50 "apneas" in under 25 minutes. Some folks think that because they don't snore they can't possibly have sleep apnea. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE!!
5. Insomnia also lowers testosterone. One of the tag alongs to being bi-polar is Insomnia.
Not a day goes by that I don't look at the business end of a handgun and give it some serious thought...that this is a way out of my effing nightmare. But I also have accepted the fact that this is the "hand I was dealt"....and I need to simply play this hand out.
But this latest "nut shot" is making me very depressed. Ernie can see it. I am starting to crawl back into my shell....again......this sucks...
Again, I apologize for the length....I have very little doubt in mind that many members here have grown tired of what some may feel chronic complaining, to those folks I do apologize...and sincerely hope that you or any of your loved ones are never in this spot....

It's brutal for sure. I've tried testosterone therapies and then they figured out my T levels are good but IIRC there is a protein or something that carries the T into the blood or something like that, and I don't have enough of the protein. There is no fix for that.

I'm seriously going to ask my RA doc next month to out me on viagra or something. I'm on opioids too and it makes sex about like shooting pool with a rope.

Christ Doug I don't see how "one bunch" of doctors can get so effed up and then another one comes along....................

I wish you luck.

I feel your pain. 49 years old here, last year after complaining about depression, low initiative and no energy I had some blood work done. Yep, my T was clinically low, like off the charts low. I tried the patches, I dont absorb it through the skin. Injections work, I went on them last spring and felt great. Positive, the old sex drive was back with a vengeance, I had all kinds of energy and my old piss and vinegar was back. Mid summer however, I was tired of injections and felt great so I went off the injections and felt pretty good through the fall, untill now. Now it is cold, dark, Christmas is around the corner (depressing time) and once again my energy is in the toilette. The things that I used to love, that used to get me turned on and going have gone by the wayside and don't intereste me anymore.

For those of you who dont know...... here are a few things that kill your testosterone.

Nuber one is plastics. Yep, plastics are actually full of estrogen. Dont eat out of plastic, dont drink out of it and god forbid dont heat it up in the microwave. That new car smell...... all those new synthetic materials gassing off. Guaranteed they are taking your manhood away.

Number two.... anything that smells good that is artificial. Deodorant, perfume, cleaners, dryer sheets, perfumed soap, again they will kill your testosterone. Now I am not saying dont shower....but definitely use these things in moderation.

Number three.... and yes this sucks because I like it...... beer is horrible for yout t. Any alcohol is, but beer is one of the worse.

I am finding ways to navigate through this, and am fortunate that everything else in my life is really good. If my career, relationship and children were screwed up I would be looking at that same business end with you.

Inkjunkie you are not alone. If you ever want to chat pm me.... there are lots of going through this ****, you are not alone......

By posting on here your asking for help.
Your not alone in having health issues. I take pain meds so I can get out bed of too and I have some of the same side affects.
You have to do what your doctor thinks you need to do. Your paying for his expertise.
Sometimes a diet change or a stretching program can make you feel better. It does work, it just takes time. Try it.
Get rid of the gun.

Dude, hang in there! I am 51 and been having all kinds of health issues this year. DO NOT even consider suicide as an option. Be strong, and FIGHT. That's the right thing to do. Praying for you right now brother.

On a positive note....had the first test shot in my back on Monday. After I had the first spinal injection a few months back, which eliminated all of the sciatic pain going down both thighs I was able to feel a much different pain a bit higher. This felt like I had a pair of wrenches being turned in opposite directions on my spine. Standing upright was very painful. Back to it, I had the first test shot. Just a numbing agent to see if they hit the right nerve. By the time I stood up I was literally pain free...bought tears to my eyes. By the end of the day the shot wore off. But this was the sign that the doc was after, they hit the right spot. Going in Wednesday to for the next test shot. If I have the same result than Medicare will pay for me to have the nerve zapped. This pretty much explains it...

That is great news...

That is great news...
Second "test shot" was as successful as the first. Scheduled for the nerve burn on January 10th. We were told that despite the two test shots being successful there is no guarantee that the nerve burn will be successful. They have yet to not have one be successful but they told us that it can happen. Doc that will be doing it said I should expect a minimum of 6 months pain reduction, most folks get a full year before having to go back in and zap it again. Growing impatient...lol...
I did get the results back on my Testosterone tests.
The standard range he uses for total Testosterone is 264-916 ng/dl,my number is 2123 ng/dl.
The standard range he uses for Free Testosterone is 47.0-244.0pg/ml. My number 608.3 pg/ml.
His message to me stated that with my Testosterone being as high as it is that would explain why my hemoglobin is so high, as well as the Prolactin. I have to be at the blood lab as early as possible on January 2nd, as hydrated as I can be for the next blood draw. It will have been a full month since my last Testosterone shot. He is hoping to see what my levels are naturally. He is expecting to see my T levels well below the bottom of the normal range, my Hemoglobin should have dropped back the high end of normal. The one he is unsure of is the Prolactin. He told us that if this is still high that it very well may mean I have a Pituitary gland tumor. If I do have a tumor he said that this is often the cause for our hormones to go a bit astray. Of course the only way to see if I have a tumor is back onto the MRI machine....time for more sedation...lol...

If you don't mind me asking, how long were you taking the Oxy? What dose? Were you taking both the immediate/extended release?

About 4 years..15 Milligram immediate release every 6 hours. Took other pain meds for 20 years before the oxy. It got where all I would look forward to was when my next dose was due. Ran out 3 days before script was due because I would take more than I should.Quit cold turkey with no help. 1st 3 days were brutal and I've discovered aches and pains that it was covering up.

Damn that quitting cold turkey is not only mentally a nightmare it's a physical nightmare too.

I was taking fentanyl patches starting 2010. My doc wanted me off that so he put me on tramadol. It's actually better for me than the fentanyl was.

I take one extended release in the morning and depending on the day and what I'm doing I take 3-4 regular pills during the day.

May be worth asking your doc about tramadol.

I've been doing the nerve burns in my neck for a couple years now and they really help. While it doesn't eliminate the pain, it knocks it down to a much more manageable level.

It generally lasts about six months and then they do it again. Some people can go for a year or more, but six months seems to be about right for me.

They give me the option of being sedated and I tried it once without sedation.... I'll be getting sedated from now on.

I read this once, and I definitely feel for you. Please feel free to let it out! Some people can handle ****, some of US, myself included, need an ear that will listen. So do not hesitate to speak your mind. If it helps you, then go for it. Please!!!!
I read all the other comments before posting. What I said about letting it out applies to all those that have medical problems. A problem shared, is a problem halved.

Haven't been on here much lately. Been dealing with all my crap the way I used to, by just trying to bury it.
I go for the nerve burn next Wednesday. Doc told me that 6 months is about average, although he has had some people get 18 months. He did say that what you spoke of is the way it works out...not complete pain relief but makes it a bit more manageable.
Haven't had any testosterone shots in 30 days. I went for a blood test today to check my levels.

Well....got the results back on my most recent testosterone test. He only checked the total... Standard range is 264-916 ng/dl. On 12-8 my total testosterone was at 2123 ng/dl. 30 days after my last injection my total testosterone was at 193 ng/dl....
He is having me cut my dosage in half, which is what I started at. I have an appointment the end of March. Mid-March, 7 days after an injection he wants me to see the blood lab. He said everything else will be addressed at that point, hopefully.
And tomorrow is the big day.....Going to have my nerve cooked in my back. Bit nervous...Bit anxious...Bit excited...

Good luck ink!! We're all hoping for the best; for you to pain free or greatly reduced at least.
