First day at the track

I'm surprised you could vary 4 mph and only vary 1 tenth. That's strange in itself too, especially cutting consistent 1.8's no matter what.... With 4.56's and 4500 stall in a A-body 1.8's is a little soft. Interesting to say the least. Nice car, nice pass! they would be fun ET slips to gander over, if you still have them, post them!

Could a headwind effect ET/MPH? We definitely had a constant breeze in our face as the temps dropped almost 20 degrees when the sun went down. I will post pics of the time slips.....I think I still have them.

in the mid 12's, 4 mph will be more than a tenth unless you jammed the brakes the last 15 feet. Yes, a breeze can vary the ET/MPH a little. I just find your car interesting as it is doing opposite of what one would expect. Usually a small block in a A-body will 60 ft hard with 4.56/4500 stall. 1.8's show the car isn't making a lot of power if you are not spinning. Yet, somewhere your 318 is making a lot of power to turn that 108 mph but it's not showing up at the 4500 rpm start. Weird some.

I found 2 of my ET slips

I'd put 3.91s in it and tune on it b/4 I changed the cam. There's more in it. That's a really good running 318. What track was this?

I still can't stop grinning from Tuesday :D
I'm jealous, I need to get my car built 1st.
I can't wait for that grin again.
What's cheaper & easier, cam & lifters or resetting up the rear end?
I'd get that hydraulic stuff out and solid flat tappet in and go have some fun

I have a set of 29.5 tires I'm going to try next. Should give me an idea what the axle change will do.
I already have the cam and lifter set so that would be inexpensive to do but these hydraulic lifters have not floated out shifting at 6k.

If you were at Atco the track prep sure wasn't the problem that place is excellent , I will be there May 27th .. I have a 489 , 8 3/4 ,4.10 set up ready to go with a spool but unfortunately it has a Mark Williams spool and you have to use their axles no others including factory axles will fit

IME, at 6200 you are pushing it with hydraulic lifters. At 6500 you are at the limit. And that’s if everything is really happy.

You may not feel the valves float. They may not even “float” (a catch all term) but that doesn’t mean you are not losing some control of the valve train. At an RPM lower than 6k.

I saw some spintron results years ago from a hydraulic lifter test. It was atrocious when they started. It got cleaned up a bunch when they were done but a SFT cam would have been a better start.
