Hey guys and girls. I'm picking up my 72 Dart with a 318 in August and going to the Mopar Nats in Columbus. My future plans involve a 5.9 magnum but right now the dart has a 318. After I purchase the 5.9 the plan is to really build a quick little car.(cam, headers, eq heads, etc). But, in the meantime I want to enjoy the car and fix any bugs it has. My question is would magnum heads work on the 318? And also can I put a 2176 eddy intake and carb on it? I ask because I want to put them on my build after I get the 5.9 ready. And that will probably take me a year or so. Thanks for any replies.

yes magnum heads work on a 318....will need hydraulic lifter that oil thru pushrod...ht 2011....plus the magnum pushrods.. magnum heads have a different bolt angle on the intake...they are vertical..you will need a intake that fits magnum heads...or get the EQ magnum HEADS with the LA bolt pattern...

Congrats! To add to the above.... the Magnum rocker oiling and rocker setup is different than the LA. So everything from the pushrods (and possibly lifters) up will be changed out. But that can all, or mostly all, go on the Magnum block later. The Magnum block is about .014"-.015" shorter so that may or may not change the intake fit to the heads enough to make you do a bit more intake shaving.

The compression ratio will go up some on the LA 318 with those heads.

See you at the Nationals!

Take your pick.........different intake manifold that matches Magnum bolt pattern, OR.......have your heads drilled for standard LA bolt pattern....was the way to go before the aftermarket stepped up and started making manifolds to fit.

If you already have manifold, MAYBE drill and tap might be the way to go.

Good luck.
