Not really because:
1. There is a lot of gas flowing thru there, and I can almost guarantee you the gas cap will leak.
2. You will lose your vent.
3. The gas will become aerated which isn't a good thing (this is why the return should be submerged in the gas).

I thought the whole point of the "Command Center" was that it didn't need a return line to the tank?
