We can land men on the moon in 1969 but we can't find a decently made flip-flop/thong type sandal at WalMart in 2018. It seemed my current pair of flip-flops were going to last forever, but finally last week one strap gave way. Upon further inspection, I found the three "buttons" that hold the straps secure were not exposed on the bottom sole of the footwear, but were molded inside the thick platform part. This protected those buttons from wearing out while walking around.

Now at Walmart last night, I found display after display of thousands of flip-flops of every different color, style, and brand. All of them had the buttons attached through the bottom of the footwear, where i guarantee they will wear off in no time as soon as one walks around a bit. They were not even a little recessed like they used to be in the cheap ones. I'll bet Neanderthals had it figured out better than that.

I refused to purchase any of that crap, I will go barefoot in protest! (first three fotos are my beloved, faithful flip-flops)

Seems all you need is a good rivet gun!

Have you road-tested the Croc's? Years ago I paid like $10.00 for some name brand flip-flops (Nike maybe?) and they broke the first week.

Actually, in second/lower foto in post #11, it looks like the button is showing on the bottom of the tread, which is what my pet peeve is all about.

My daughter has a pair and beat the hell out of them all summer. Crocs makes good stuff.

The button is recessed. You have to wear the sole out before you wear the button off.

When you say "we" put a man on the moon? That had to been metaphorical? LOL

them are shower shoes, Marine Corp issue and a must if you don't want the fungi.

When I was a kid in the Virgin Islands the Rastamen used to make them out of tires. Literally the bottom of the sandal was tire tread!

Huaraches...with the tire tread soles. A Mexican original. And rubber Flojos too but neither are cheap anymore.

the rubber ones have the studs on the bottom but their higher end split toe stuff is flat. "Rainbow" Sandals also have a smooth sole. Go old school and cut some old tread and shoe-goo it to the bottom, but the tread nowadays is steel belted and uber stiff so it wont work. Maybe just a thick *** piece of neoprene. I never could get used to the spit toe sandal so I always got the Flojos style, I needed a heel strap

Oh man that second one looks disasterous? I mean nothing between the big toe to keep that whole front from folding under?
