I am contemplating making the swap from collumn to floor shift with 904 trans in my duster, I do not want to use any of the aftermarket cable driven type shifters as there is no good way to route though when you have headers (melted 4 of them on my dart) I don't think i want to do the full factory console though. Was there a version of these cars that had the factory automatic on the floor without a console? Also curious to see y'alls setups if you have something cool going on interior wise.

If you've melted four cables, you're routing them wrong. They need to come in from the back of the transmission and tied down and mounted properly.

If you use the B&M 36 inch race cable you won’t melt it because it stays behind the bell housing.
Been running the short heavy duty cable now for 6 years after melting the cable that came with my Hurst ratchet shifter.

I have had the Lokar floor mount shifter in my summit shopping cart since September.
Every time I reach to click the buy button, I remember that I haven't bought myself a get-out-of-jail card, in the form of gold jewelry or bullion for my wife lol!
As long as I budget double, I am free to get anything I want.

https://sdbullion.com/ + Lokar FM727FM Lokar Floor Mount Automatic Transmission Shifters | Summit Racing = everybody is happy.

Don' laugh but Mr Gasket still makes these mechanical floor shifters.Universal,No cable with many extra parts to fit.
Got it from Jegs or Summit.Hooked to a 904. I put them on 2 different cars.Sorry don't have a part number.
Worked for me even with a manual shift valve body.

I agree, if you melted 4 cables you are either not using the correct length cable, or you weren't careful in the routing and securing of the cable. I have had the same 36" Morse cable on my bracket car for 14 years with no problems. I made sure with the routing that it was secured away from the headers and had the straightest route possible.

Yeah some of those actually work purdy good. Also, there's a couple that have reverse lockouts and those will even pass tech on an NHRA track.

I would have recommended a Winters sidewinder shifter (bulletproof, rear entry cable, Mopar specific) but when I looked at summit they only show 727 versions. I don't know if they would work with a 904.
Very similar to a turbo action cheetah..... only they come with a cover, and about $150 cheaper.
(They are huge, most likely won't work with a bench seat).

Edit: looks like 257-1 is for a 904/999. Around $300.

re reading my post i think i was a bit vague in what im asking, I guess the question is, was there a factory correct confiuration that used a factory floor shifter without the factory console, or is the console version the only one in existance. I've made up my mind that i like the way the factory shifter mounts up and operates, i just need to know if im trying to track down a whole console or if there was some kinda (cheaper version) of the car that just had a boot/shifter box ext.

Console is the only factory floor shift for a Duster. You "Can" use the shifter part and make a box/boot with some work. Just depends on how creative you are.
Long ago I used a shifter from a 72 Challenger (Slap Stick) without a console. Didn't look all that good but worked in a 63 Plymouth Belvedere.

Exactly what i wanted to know thanks! I found a console locally so im gonna snag it. That just leaves mounting brackets, shifter assembly and linkages to track down.
