I bought a 73 340 already rebuilt without a flywheel what can I do to get a flywheel for this engine? Can I use a 73 flywheel or were they all individually balanced with their own damper and flywheels? Also where are the part numbers on the dampers and flywheels? the number I see on the back of my damper that is very visible (3830481)doesn't match up with any number I have

340 flywheels are zero balanced, just get one and bolt her on. Summit and jegs sells them, should be easy to find one.

forged crank internally balanced 340's use neutral flywheels
73 cast crank externally balanced 340's require the correct 340 flywheel

Yep, sorry about that. Up to 72 1/2 was the steel cranks after that a mid year production change to cast crank in 340's is where the externally balanced special flywheel is needed. Was thinking this after I posted and cafe beat me too it...

You need to find out what's IN your engine. Just because it's a 73 block does not mean it has a cast crank!!!!
