longer version to read while sipping coffee and eating bon-bons:6 Foods That Trigger Anxiety and What To Eat Instead

the food probably was not that processed back then. not now, have to read labels, if you can see the small print.
Ya true. The ingredients in maple syrup is no longer maple syrup. The ingredients in milk is no longer milk. The ingredients in meat is no longer meat..... But we all need to perform our own due diligence and educate ourselves on what's garbage in the supermarket. And you'd be very surprised on what you thought was healthy in the past is not anymore..

I'm not a health nut, but I'm 55 and still mountain bike 6 miles and hike 8 miles on a day when I'm bored. But I think that a thread needs to be started on just what is not healthy to eat in the U.S. anymore... There are alot of half-truths, conspiracies, and downright lies dumped on us by the food companies that most Americans don't even think twice about. It's scary to see the downward spiral of society (obese kids, young adults with medical issues, etc..), and it's gaining momentum as the generations go on thinking that this garbage food is normal....

A healthy diet = starvation. Everything is on some list for some reason. Yes foods have side effects same as drugs. They don't mention any side effects in potato chip commercials. I considered posting THREADS THAT CAUSE ANXIETY. Just kidding

The only food that gave me anxiety is that which was consumed on a first date.

Most food now is processed and probably not too healthy. It has been prepared to be pleasurable and is delicious.
The commercials glamourize pleasure food. It is easy to overeat when you get into this stuff.

The big problem in America is sugar. Sugar is bad for your mental health and causes inflamation and various health issues. Portion size, and lack of exercise are high on the list too. We eat too much at one sitting, and too many processed sugary products. Soda, regular or diet, is no good. When you're older like me, small meals are best.

Shoot i passed by my high school and all the kids look like there in elementary school. Drinking starbucks and energy drinks, is a big issue. That should only be available for 18 Year olds. This, as silly as it sounds is more of an issue than people think. My theory is that its easier for the government to control short people. lol

Maple Syrup...if the label says 100 % pure, legally there can be no additives. If it just says "Pure" then the
big corporations can add 15% non syrup items. Usually an ingredient to prevent it from turning to hard candy and another to prevent mould but i'm sure they dilute and make up the difference with processed sugar.Don't worry, it still tastes great. If you want 100% pure you'll have to buy from someone like me. I'm a hobbyist but am very fussy and mine has been government tested Pure at exactly 66.6 Brix!
Keeps this old timer outside and busy for 5 or 6 weeks each spring!

One that causes me anxiety is that 8 dollar ribbon fry with cheese from the food truck . But I like it. :)

My best friend's 16 year old daughter was overweight. But instead of making her exercise and eat healthy, her father imbibed her with pharmaceuticals (after all, who wants to do tedious exercise when they can just buy one of the many weight loss medications drilled into our faces on TV every day..). One of the side effects of the weight loss medication was deteriorated cartilege. So at 18 years old she's had both knees replaced and is still overweight. They then took her off of that medication due to the negative side effects. She was still overweight, so they gave her a new weight loss pharmaceutical instead of exercising and eating healthy. But the side effect of the new medication was diabetes. So now, at 19 years old, she's got two replaced knees and diabetes, walks around on crutches, and is still overweight.... When I saw them last weekend, the father gave her a six pack of Coca Cola, and she drank the whole six pack in 30 minutes...

whatever you do regularly is your "normal" If you are used to sweets and junk food and stop eating those foods
it will be noticed and very, very uncomfortable. If you can hang in there for a few months your "normal" will be not eating that stuff and eventually it won't be missed. Then you will be better off, but is hard to do.
The same goes for most anything...smoking, gambling, drugs, alcohol or whatever.

I wouldn't call sugar a "problem"; Americans have the right and ability to make good food decisions. I would call it a "mentality", because the media has been drilling bad food into our heads to 50 years and saying it's great food... Now society believes it, as they drive to the pharmacy every week for their prescriptions....

I think sugar is addictive. Big food have tastse testers. They add sugar and have the testers taste the product.
This continues until the food becomes sickeningly sweet at which point they cut it back and it is ready for the market. People eventually crave it.

I agree. If someone wants to lose weight or become healthy, it's not something you can do every now and then. To be effective, your whole lifestyle needs to change....

I used to be a fitness instructor back in the day. Everyone came into the fitness center wound up and ready to start a healthy chapter in their lives. But after they found out how hard it is to create a healthy lifestyle, 90% of them dropped out and went back to sitting on the couch with potato chips...

sorry to hear this. now that she is older, maybe she'll make better choices for herself.
my wife would eat like that. I said, as long as you are healthy, I don't care what size you are. after watching her Father die from diabetes, she started exercising and watching what she ate. I think she looks like Olive Oly size now instead of a female Blutto.

I feel it's more common for people around my age group (mid-30s) and younger to see fitness and having a healthier lifestyle as important, possibly because they've seen what has happened to their parents having unhealthy lifestyles and habits. My dad always eats healthy, exercises a ton and doesn't take any meds unless absolutely necessary but my mom only occasionally exercises a little bit, gives in to cravings and takes a laundry list of meds; you can guess who is doing better going into old age. I go to the gym 2-4 times a week and was surprised over the summer how many teenagers were in there, it basically became twice as crowded compared to the school year. Younger people on the whole also have a distrust of the processed food and pharmaceutical industries. Not too hard to see why. Not to mention the ridiculous cost of healthcare and the increasing difficulty of getting a job with decent health insurance is driving people to take better preventative care of their bodies because they literally can't afford to get sick or injured.

I am what I eat.... a big chunk of meat, sitting in a pile of good ice cream, topped with pepper jack cheese, smothered in coffee with sprinkles of chocolate cookie> YUM!!!!!!!!!!!! On a hot day, it might be floating in a cold beer!!!!! Double YUM!!!    :confederateflag: :BangHead:

What do they have against short people. I'm well under 5 feet but I don't drink that starbucks garbage

At 18 (now 19), she should be making decisions for herself.

And folks wonder why healthcare premiums are what they are.

And then the really hard part, giving up buying car parts, you’ve got to stick at it as it’s a hard habit to break, but soon it will be your new normal. And life will be dull and sad;)
