Here's some pics from Friday qualifying at the NHRA Finals at Pomona. A few of us from Inland Mopars went out to get our nitro fix...
Don't jump in too soon as there's a few pics to post.
Check out the vintage stuff at the end. NHRA put together what they called the "Rumble In The Junction", 40 vintage fuel dragsters, funny cars, and altereds they were showing in the Hot Rod Junction. After Friday qualifying was over they fired them all up at 4:00 for the ultimate cacklefest.
It was AWESOME! I don't know if it was the sound of 40 fuel motors cackling all around me or the nitro fumes in the air that brought tears to my eyes.
Enjoy...

The dragstrip was renamed "Parker Ave" in 1971 to honor former City of Pomona Police Chief Ralph Parker who was the driving force behind NHRA getting the permanent home for the Winternationals at Pomona, and now also the Finals. Read more about it here: http://cms.nhra.com/50th/news/index.html?story=295. The return road runs up in front of the stands and then makes a right turn on "Wally Parks Blvd." to go back to the pits.
