Frikin Indians

No problem Rani, I just believe a 'We-are-the-world' mentality is easier than creating more potential problems. There are plenty of problems, it's better if we can just avoid some where ego & heritage can be an explosive combination.

I think the micro groups form as a feel-safe community/sanctuary in a cold world.

I don't have any problem at all about where people came from, or what thier religious or racial background is as long as we are all truly equal.
I agree completely about us all living on the same rock comment, and would go one further with that to say that every living being on this planet deserves the same equality and fair treatment as any other.

All the crap about different passing scores or different tests for different races, and certain groups having different rights because of thier race, religion, or heritage is a bunch of garbage.

Everyone within these borders should have the same rights and abide by the same laws. PERIOD
Anything less only feeds division and racism.

Did you hear about the Fucawee Indians (feather type)???

They would wander around the Great Plains, look over the horizon and say, "Where the f*ck are we?"

(No relation to the Smack-a-ho tribe...)

did you hear about the Native Indian guy in Arizona who drank a whole gallon of ice tea in an ice tea drinking contest.

unfortunately, later that day....he drown in his teepee :-?

OK, so what tribe are the Frikin Indians, again?

Good question.
This reservation is Yavapai, but the 200 or so members are mixed in tribe affiliation mostly of Native Arizona tribes.

That was the question, right?

The root of much anti "foreigner" sentiment in America stems from immigrant groups forming a microcosm of their native ways within naturalized "American" society. Retaining languages, styles of dress, cooking and mannerisms that are foreign to the locals is never going to endear themselves to the general populace. Their failure to assimilate is almost an insult to many who came here and gave up their own heritage generations ago.

This says it all !

It also applies to people moving from a big city to a small town that refuse to slow down and assimilate.

When this migration happens on a large scale it changes the area to one more like the area they escaped from.

Ask me how I know.

that's a double edge sword statement because this country also preaches the freedom to live as you please.....which means if people retain their languages and dress and cooking in their homes then that should be ok. (note: I said in their homes)

but on the other hand I agree with the idea of ethnic groups forming cliques and generally being unfriendly to so called outsiders is a bad thing and don't belong here.

it used to upset me at my university when some school employees would go out of their way to introduce me to international students only and patronized me like I only wanted to hang out with people from my home country and that upset me because that's not what I am all about. I want to hang out with everyone, not just a certain group of people, yet the assumption was there.

so that statement is a two way street, I still dress and cook my native stuff in my home but out in public you see me driving my dart and eating whoppers and doing the same things as everybody else. isn't that what America is all about ???

My Great Grandmother immigrated here from Odessa (Prussian by birth).
Her rule for the family was that you could speak German (or Russian) in the house, but when you stepped outside that front door, you only spoke English.

I am all about the flavor of the world, different customs, ideologies, theologies and points of views. I believe it makes us stronger and more complete as a society. BUT, there is a reason they called this the New World. It doesn't make sense if you just move here, isolate yourself and continue on in the way that made you move in the first place.

The U.S of A is the greatest country in the world for a reason. We got here in some not so pretty ways at times and we have a long way to go. Being held hostage by the past and allowing seperationism by any one single race hobbles progress.

When you really, really think about it, there are 3 main root causes to conflict.....Money, Religion, and Racism......you know...."they got more money than us"....."Our god is the true god, yours isn't"....."I don't like the colour of your skin" or " you don't look like us".......just my point of veiw.
There have been some very good posts in here too.

Let me start by saying that I am part Cherokee Indian :D

We have some reservation property around the area that is kind of intertwined with non reservation land and of course the reservations have stores, gas stations and such that they control as far as revenue and taxation goes. (what taxation? they are exempt)

Well recently the reservation put a four lane through way from one non reservation highway across to another non reservation highway.
Get this, it is all 25mph speed limit. (a brand new devided four lane road that looks just like any freeway you might see)
The reservation cops sit and radar the vehicles on that road, and the tribe makes all the money from the fines. (also tax exempt)
Reservation cops, reservation levied fines, and a reservation court.
US or state law should apply, and I don't think it is fair to US citizens to be subject to non US or state controlled law withing the borders of our own country.

I won't drive on it for any reason.
Piss on em

They need to have about 1000 people all go through on large-displacement sportbikes at 50MPH...when the cops try to stop someone, they should all just take off!

But no, the "tribal nations" are, in fact, generally above the law.

that's how it is here ....I speak Hindi in the house to my little sister and to those members of my adoptive family who understand it but when I go to town its English ONLY.

and when I go to car shows ...I speak Mopar ONLY ...I don't speak ford or chevy ....sorry don't mean to be bias but just no speaka ford. :D

great to see you back Mr. Kevin .....hope all is well with you ...I was wondering where you went for a while and I even asked Mr. Keith (66340sedan) where you went.

Try dealing with utes. I'm not racist by any means of the definition, but they drive me crazy. Being the wealthiest tribe in the country most of them have a holier than thou attitude toward the white eye that owe them the world...

around the world, there are a lot of people like that ....but all you can do is keep your own heart clean and the proof is in the pudding like they say. its no wonder some people are happy go lucky in life and some are miserable even with money out wazoo.

Karma is much bigger and stronger than any of us and kindness packs a mean punch.

so let them do what they do and take what they THINK they are entitled to and just keep being cool like you always are and it will pay off on the long run.

i agree entirely. I've met many utes and Navajo that are just as friendly as you or I. It just puzzles me to see how many of them are so prejudice against anyone of pale skin after so many years. Bia officers will sit at the border of the reservation and wait for you to cross over just so they can pull you over. You don't have to have a light out or be speeding. They pull you over for the hell of it just so they can waste your time. :( oh well

I'm 7/32 Cherokee. Just to throw it out there lol

You should see how some of the tribes with casino money here treat people. We found out thurs. night that a favorite (only) local restaurant will be closing for the season. The chief of the tribe that owns it decided that making less money or breaking even is worse for the tribe than the employees (mostly tribal) lives are worth. One waitresses is 72 and depends on tips for money to care for
grandchilderen.

I didnt see some one say ...... What can thay do if you hook a u turn right back over the line ?

Seriously, what are the jurisdictional limitations? Can the reservation police pursue you off the res? I think local police has to get permission to go onto reservation territory. What's the basics?

Around here the BIA and tribal marshals join in on car chases all the time. I think everything around here is part of a tribal nation or territory.

Grew up in the San Fernando Valley in the early 50's it was the "sticks".

By the mid 60's it was the place to be, and everyone flooded in.

By the mid 70's it was time for me to be FROM.

I looked at places in the North and East bay area and could see the signs it was about to have a population explosion. I wanted non of that, although if I had bought at that time I could have sold a few years later and made a killing.

Instead I settled in San Luis Obispo and enjoyed the SLO life for the next 20 years. Then one day you look around and DANG the pace has gotten hectic for all the fast growth that happened in the 90's and kept on going until 2006.

We moved in 2002 to Shasta Lake just in time for the real estate boom to start.
Then the bust in 2007 settled things down and people moved away.

Now thanks to the prison realignment the Feds forced on California and our governor dumping the inmates on the local jails who have no room, we now have a catch and release system. The Police are under staffed and crime is way up. The county sup's are wondering when vigilanteism is going to start.

If we could just ship these con's to an island half way around the world … Oh wait , Great Britain did that !

But I digress. I watched fast growth and the lack of assimilation on the part of the newbee's and the resulting change to the area's around California first hand.

I've also watched it happen in Oregon. The Portland area and Bend area have had major growth since the 80's.

Nevada : Can you say Reno , Las Vegas to mention a couple.

Arizona : Phoenix and surrounding area's.

I could go on about all the western states but you get the point.

I would love to see Rani all dressed in her native attire driving around in her dart eating a whopper!!!!......
