We drove our 69 Swinger for the first tonight after a complete restoration, the front suspension tie rods, pitman arm, shocks, bump stops etc. are all new.
When we are driving over uneven pavement there is a bang coming from both sides of the front suspension. I know every thing tight and installed right.
I was talking to another Dart owner and he says he has the same noise.
It steers and handles like a dream.
Is this noise common in the Darts?

Thanks
Kenny

Bump

SSSSSSSSSSSSSnake, does your car make a noise like mine is making going over bumps ??????

Thanks
Kenny

sounds like sway bar bushings or shock bushings or maybe were the swaybar goes threw the mount that holds the swaybar to the fram and if you didnt replace the srut rod bushings.that would be my gess....just a thut Artie

If you have disc brakes put the brakes on just a bit while hitting bumps and see if it goes away. The pads rattle on my car because they don't come with the clips, some come with a tube of silicone to hold them from rattling.

x2 for the disc brake thing, The pads have tabs that need to be bent so the pad will "grip" the caliper... if not the thing will sound like it knocks/bangs over bumps. My passenger front does that, I can never seem to get them tight enough...

Start with the shocks. Was the car set on the ground, then lca bushings/torsion bars tightened? (not on jackstands). Local parts stores usually sell the wrong idler arm.

And, the car has to be on rhe ground, to adjust new swaybar linkage; it needs to be parrallel to the ground.

Yep when I first got my dart going up the driveway and back and into my shelter with a slight raise in the pad I would get a big bang.Doing the tear down my pivot pin fell right out of the lower arm.New everything no bang now.

so if I hit a bump hard enough I will get noise but "uneven pavement" doesnt do it. If you drive with one wheel on the road and one on the sidewalk, do you get banging??

Thanks again for all the help guys. I will get under the car tomorrow and see what is going on and let you know what I find.

Thanks
Kenny

Up Date:
I found the source of the front end banging.
Both lower shock bolts were tight but not enough, the steel spacer inside the rubber was still lose enough that it was hitting on the bolt. I tightened the heck out of them and that took care of that.
The other noise was the fuel filter (oh ya) what I did when I was building the car, I installed it down on the frame rail at the end of the gas line ahead of the fuel pump. (The reason for this is to clean up the motor) It was hitting on the frame so I cable tied a piece of rubber around it.

Thanks to the guys that gave there suggestions, very much appreciated.
