So, I'm already "on the hunt" for bein' P.O'd. I spent a LOT of money on this CMC PT130 130 hp generic tilt/ trim thing..........close to 800 bucks and I did NOT get the optional "clamp on" adapter for clamp on motors.

This thing drove me nuts. It's not really set up well in my opinion. "Let's pretend" the target boat is set up with a bolt on outboard.............this thing is supposed to REPLACE the motor at the same mounting points. IT DOES NOT. A bolt on motor must be adusted UP on the tilt adapter as it works out too low. On the other hand THE SAME MOTOR with a clamp on mounting, ends up 2" higher than the bolt on because the clamp on adapter spaces the motor up that much

Wouldn'cha think the damn thing would be engineered to "bolt on in place of" and end up "no worse no better" than what you started with?

ANYWAY I finally got it done, put my 35 on there for "first ride ever" of the so called "new" 15ft Crestliner.

I did not fire the 35 as getting it into the tank is a "long story" at present. But I had RUN THE CARB DRY last year, and figured................"it's gotta run."

Took 'er down to Lake Fernan for a shake down run and............no fuel.......needle and seat are stuck. You have to tear half the motor apart (remove the starter/ silencer/ choke / throttle bracket, loosen electrical cable clamp. ALL THIS AT THE DOCK while trying to A lean over the splash well from the rear "seat" or B sitting on top of the stern well, or C standing one foot in the stern well, and one foot in the back seat. NO FUN and MORE THAN AN HOUR LATER I finally got it back together and fired up.

So it's 3PM it's over 80F, and the old man is tard. Probably take a nap

NEXT PROJECT is getting the old 75hp on the thing and THEN we'll see what trouble REALLY IS LOLOL

"Jigging up" the tilt trim device The clamp on engine simply MUST be spaced up 2" otherwise there is interference problems with the mechanics of the device. VERY VERY poor design. I believe the actuator should have been mounted the opposite way, IE top of actuator anchored on the transom side, and bottom anchored on the motor side, both for leverage and for clearance of the motor parts. The actuator they are using will not pump when layed over at that angle.

Looks like a cool little boat and resembles the Crestliners in some ways. Is that a divided cockpit?

It's about a 57 Crestliner 15' "Voyager." I have about a 53 12 ft Crestliner, but it 's small and very short on freeboard. This one is a bit taller. It is not "that" nice. There are holes in the bow deck from idiots installing fishfinders, etc, and has a cheap thrown on paint job. It will take "something" to spruce it up. So far I'm liking it. Has a VERY deep keel. Next project, maybe tomorrow--Monday before the good weather goes away..........is to get the 75hp on there and "see what"

Today was also a "test day" for the trailer. This lake and this ramp is the worst. It is very shallow, and the boat is nearly completely out of the water on the ramp. I removed the smaller tilting roller sets from the rear of this trailer and swapped them to the other trailer for the 12ft--which did not tilt.......just single set of rear rollers

Then this trailer got some VERY large roller bunks I bought of Marketplace. I also installed a "wench" LOL with a LOT more gearing. With the 35 on there, I cranked 'er home WITH ONE HAND on the winch. So I'm doubly optomistic that the big 75 will be "manageable" with this setup.

Its a walk threw, two front seats ( some dumbbell cut the starboard seat back out)
But I will get it back in the water, I am digging your 57

So I just got back in the hoose and now I'm REALLY tard. Got the big 'ol 64 'Rude 75hp mounted. The photos show that I drilled extra holes to boost the tilt device UP and that even so the motor must be raised in it's own brackets. This finally gets the cavitation plate pretty close to "even" with hull bottom

Tomorrow I need to "temporary" some wiring to get it to crank and if lucky, will go for a REAL spin LOLOL on the lake

The motor bracket mounting bolts are 1/2" stainless so you can get an idea of how big the pivot bolts are. I have not measured them, must be 3/4 or 7/8, anyway

The grey material below the engine which the steering cable is mounted to is a big 'ol piece of 1/4 x 2 1/2 STAINLESS angle I had lying around. Used it to beef the transom, did not even have to cut it!!!

Dang, that Rude is a whopper.
The V4 series for many years were substantially the same physical size. I don't know what the "high HP" was in the old style series, 100hp?? Then they redesigned the thing a bit and went up some more. They are BIG. and they are HEAVY. Still, though, less than some of the monster 4 stroke jobs

I LOVE these boat threads by Del. I’m glad it’s Spring and we’re finally getting some new posts. That ‘Rude is huge and I’m digging that vintage Crestliner as well. Can’t wait to see some pics and vids of that 75 haulin some a$$ on the lake. Thanks for posting Del..... love it!

I musta been more tired yesterday than I realized. I tried to take it easy today, just now wok up from a nap after getting home. I'm beat. The good and bad: The tilt device does seem to have plenty of power for the big 75, but it is still too low. The added weight of the power tilt and that big 75 REALLY pulls down the stern. If was not so old I'd install the engine only and go launch it to see what the difference is. I cannot put much gas in the bow, there's a flotation tank up there and not much "foot" room even just "me." The boat has those odd little "side" bins/ seats I may lash them onto those The side bins are really kinda useless. I could put the batteries inside the rear seat base would move them "a bit" There is not much freeboard although the stern well will protect it a lot. The well is not absolutely leakproof.

Unfortunately the photos "at speed" were all blurry

It fired right up. Bear in mind I had it running on the "big" 16' either last year or year before. I "temporaried" wiring, solenoid in the box, cable to starter and ground, grounding lead for mag (breaker points) All you really need to operate it is two starter buttons which is what Johnny'Rude used to use at one time. Except they were "start" and "choke" which also killed it. This thing believe it or not has a WATER HEATED AUTO CHOKE

I think I'm gonna raise the tilt machine one more hole and raise the engine at least one more hole and try it agin'. I have a China tach (triggers off a plug wire) and a couple of old GPS I can charge up. I have 3 other props but don't know if they are any faster/ slower, or about same.
