I put an aftermarket fuel guage in my '69 and re rean the wiring so it is independant.
When I take the sending unit out and check the ohms (full and empty) they are within specs. However, the guage (equuis) shows full when the float is up and 3/4 when the float is down.
Any ideas?

Some/ many aftermarket gauges are what is known as a "bridge" circuit and the gauge MUST be grounded to be accurate.

Thanks for the info. I tried grounding it to the steering column. Should I run a ground wire from the guage back to the tank?

I would not think it's needed. You have the destructions for the gauge? What/ who made it?

If the sender is within spec, and you're sure it's hooked up OK, only thing I can think of is that either the sender / float is sticking / binding on something or the gauge itself is out of calibration.

Might contact the manufacturer?

Seceral members can tell you about certain aftermarket gauges that dont match the factory senders in mopars. You could ask Mullinax95 how here solved this same problem.
I dont know anything about aftermarket gauges myself. Just trying to help
