Im thinking somewhere here there is a thread forthis already, but being new I haven't been able to find it.....in the meantime.....
I have a '92 318 magnum with multi port fuel injection and there's nothing wrong with it! No drips, no blue smoke, nothin'. I have the chance without rebuilding the motor to do the top end, Edelbrock RPM manifold, Thunder Series 650 Carb, Performer RPM heads. Truck has all the small bolt on but I'm ready for the next step. If you had the choice would you make the change from fuel injected to carb with this set up and would the HP gains be more than just noticeable?! Also, on top of fuel pump, what else do I need to change in order for this to go smoothly and be worth it? Engine sits in a lowered D150 short box. You can see a pic of it in the welcome wagon under Canadian D150. Thanks for all your help....sorry it took so long to sign up and get here!

No way in hell I'd go from Fuel Injection to Carb.

There are other place where you can get that Air-Gap intake that has be modified to EFI instead of a carb. I'd go with that modified Air-Gap if you are locked in on using it.

Welcome.. If doing an Edelbrock top end swap, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE , IN EDELBROCK HEADS, for a Magnum. The lifters, oil different than LA shaft rocker heads.
( Edelbrock 61779,x 2, proper bolt on head. Please read up ,on them) A option: a pair of E.Q. CH318 B heads assembled, flow as well as the Eddy's, still use the stock valve train. The cool part, about these heads: Drilled ,for a LA style intake. Myself, I would add more camshaft, to take advantage of new air flow.
Check out the part numbers,I posted. (Read a lot, ask lots of questions) Also , check out www.Magnumswap.com. Good info, from a member here.
P.S.: do you have a goal with this,& what parts do you have already?( I would do carb, on a budget and new to this)
Send FABO member RAMM, a P.M. He's in Canada, and VERY GOOD on Magnum based builds.

Wow, thanks!! I knew coming to this website would really help me out! I don't have an end goal as of yet just because the motor is currently strong and really not in need of anything, I just got tired of not being able to tinker on it and was looking at another step up. Youve both given me lots to research and I appreciate that immensely! I'll report back on my findings, thanks again!

Hey 1970Duster, the intake from summit, any idea of what gains I'd see with that direct bolt on?! The single plane opening also looks like it should be for a 2 Barrell carb....am I just deceived by the picture?

The gains I couldn't tell you but it's designed to be a direct replacement. That means you should be able to remove your throttle body off your motor and bolt it right to that intake. It's designed for your EFI system.

I'd swap to an OBD-II computer and retain the FI while gaining tune-ability over OBD-I.

There's 2 M1s- a 2bbl, and a 4bbl (that'll come with adapter in most cases). The RPM Air-gap is also an option for Magnum heads with FI- however the dual plane isn't nearly the big deal for an injected motor as for carbed. The M1s have been around for a LONG time so it's very possible to get one 1/3 price- used. The stock TB on these is a 2bbl.

Hey infecteddog, we had a baby so it's been awhile since I've been here, I'm back at it though. Where would I find an OBD-11 computer? And who could tune it once I get everything in? Right now I'm Looking to keep the fuel injection and put on a Edelbrock performer that supports my multi port and cam, lifters and springs. It would be easy to go to carb but from what I hear I want to stay with the fuel injected.

Others will complain, check out Megasquirt. Lots to learn, very good....

I wont get caught up in the EFI VS carb argument, but I will say I prefer carburetors.

There are a lot of smart people here on FABO, but another great site for magnum engines is www.racemagnum.com. It's mainly Dodge Dakota guys but as far as a magnum engine goes, there isn't a better source, IMO.
