My engine build is coming together thanks to you all. I need a fuel pump. I would like to run a mechanical fuel pump. The engine will be a 408 10.3 CR, Edelbrock heads, Air gap intake, Hughes 232/237 @ .50 dur 540/548 lift cam, tti headers. Haven't picked a carb yet.

Would a stock type Carter 120 gph, 5.5-6.5 psi be OK? Any recomendations are appreciated

As far as carbs, I had one recommendation for an 870VS Street Avenger. and I will certainly consider that. The dual inlet sounds like a good idea when you are shoving that much gas into an engine. However, I was wondering what people thought about the 800 Edelbrock Thunder AVS?

The stock pump is fine. I spec 870 VS Street Avengers for the mild 4" packages. The problem with the Thunder series is they are smaller because of the dry airflow rating vs the wet flow Thunder rating. When fuel is added to the test, the total amount of air able to be flowed is lower by about 15%. When tested the same way as the Edelbrock, the Avenger would flow closer to 1000cfm. It's a much larger carb than the Edelbrock, and exactly what the engine needs.

You are a wealth of information Moper. I had no idea there were two methods of testing the flow of a carb. Thanks. So I guess Edelbrock doesn't even make a carb big enough for the engine.

No, it can run well with them. But, they will run out of steam at a fairly low rpm. If you dont need to make power beyond about 5000rpm, they are a very good carb. They just max out early.

I love my carter pump!

And I don't know about the Eb not being big enough, we had a 440 shifting at 6200 running 11.2's with a 750EB. (No trap doors)

Reliable, I would get he EB, you will lose some power, but it all depends if your looking for max ET, or a street cruiser. And withthat cam, on the 408, are you going to be spinning it past 53-5500 anyway?
