There is a '64 Valiant for sale near me. I went and took a look at the car, the add was a little better than the actual condition of the car. They wanted $1750 for it.

Car is a slant 6, 2 door, the add says 3 speed on the column (when I was there forgot to look for a clutch pedal, or if its just an auto), interior and paint need to be redone. The car is inspected and runs so I guess thats a plus, lol. Looks like it was in a slight accident the front bumper is bent in the middle. Hard to look under the car but I didn't see any major rust spots.

I think the car had a vinyl top, but now sports a leopard print one, lol.

Basically what I want to know is it worth that much? I know they aren't as popular as the later A bodies. What are these worth all fixed up? Not that I'm getting it to restore and sell.

I want to get a new DD something different and that gets better mileage than my current DD. My Jeep is only getting 15-18 mpg going back and forth to work.

You won't improve your fuel economy by much compared to your stated current mpg. They really don't have much value for resale. It is very very hard to fix one up and make a profit, but they are great cars to drive imo. Rust is a very very important issue with these cars it is 48 years old and they weren't rustproofed very well when new. The most troublesome rust locations are upper control arm mounts, rear torsion bar mounts, and rear leaf spring mounts. A 64 won't have a 3 speed auto column shift unless someone has changed out the column. Another big safety issue is that a 64 is single resevoir brakes-meaning 1 small leak and you have zero brakes. If it isn't eaten up with rust and the body looks decent I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 64 2dr for $1750, but I have had a few and know how to spot trouble spots that will cause lots of problems for a first timer.

Thanks for the input. I'll go take a look at it again sometime this week and look at those specific areas.

the gas milage on /6's are not great. Funny, many report better milage in the 273 V8.

it really depends on what shape the body is in.. even all redone they don't bring a ton of money.
