OK OK OK, now......don't flame me on this, Its a Ford, I know.....but I couldnt pass the deal up lol.

it an 01 short bed ,reg cab,2 wheel drive, auto v6 f150 .....it was a buddy of mines and he told me the motor blew up and sure enough it was making all sorts of funny noises.

BUT he recently had a new transmission installed in the truck and it SOUNDS like maybe the tourqe converter came loose....so I may luck out.

but even if it comes down to having to swap in a new motor I couldnt pass the deal up.

I picked it up with a clean title for $200.00 , seemsl ike a good deal to me, figured I would share it with you guys.

Please no Ford comments........I already know :angry7: (walk of shame) LOL

I've always owned Ford trucks. I currently drive an Excursion 7.3 turbo diesel and it has never let me down. Great find and good luck on your new truck.

No shame in the ford trucks!! That is all I have had for the past 7 years and no issues. My dad just sold his 99 with the 4.2 v6 with 350k and no issues whatsoever.

I made Ford trucks for years, til they closed the plant here. Now I just make SUV,s/CUV,s.I,ve had my F-150 4x4 FX4 off-road for almost 7 yrs. It,s been a great truck and hauls the car to the track with ease.

I don't mind ford products...they made some nice vehicles, I just PREFER my mopars is all.

but for $200.00 .....rather it have been a ram or a chevy or a ford....it was a good deal so I took it lol. Its worth more than that in scrap price how I look at it.

I will fix it and use it as a daily driver

Hell, even if it doesn't run, you can't beat $200. Looks like the body is in great shape. I have a 2010 F-250, so I won't flame it. I used to be a Chebby guy, but the last couple I had were crap, so i gave up on them.

You got a great deal! I prefer to not own Fords if I can help it but for $200 each I would buy a semi-load of them. The salvage yards around here would ask $200 just for a door.
Hopefully you will luck out on noise. However the v-6s were notorious for the intake gaskets to leak coolant into the cylinders. Then they would bend the rods when you started them and make quite a racket. I had a partner who talked me into buying a couple with that problem. However we sold them to a guy who was selling them to Mexicans. We made good money on them, too.
Let us know what the problem turns out to be.

I drive a first gen 97 f250 diesel love him so much named hi Rosco!!
Of course the only thing that dosent brake on it is the engine. Probably because international developed it.

Thanks guys.

I am pretty sure I will find it is loose converter bolts or something like that.

It ran great always and then one morning he fired it up and instantly it was making that noise so he pulled back in his driveway and thats where it has been sitting since.

and he recently had a new transmission installed so I am thinking they didnt tighten the converter bolts enough.

I don't think its a knock for the following reasons......every once and awhile it starts harder than other times and it will go through its revolutions faster and slower at certain spots (like the converter is lose and binding when it gets to a certain location during a revolution),also the "knock" it has isnt a constant repetitive knock like you would hear in an engine......hard to explain but at times it will be a constant knock like its knocking with the revolutions of the engine and other times it almost fades away for a second (like the torque converter lines up for a short period of time).....also it will make a "squeltching" noise I guess you can say everyone once and awhile like the starter hanging up or like the TQ snout rubbing to tight on the pump seal for a quick second (like the TQ is loose and sitting **** eyed for a quick moment and rubbing the seal).

its a tricky one, you guys would have to be here to hear for your self but I am THINKING I may luck out and find loose bolts.....if not and it turns out to be a more serious mechanical problem, oh well....only paid $200 for the truck HAHA

I've owned a lot of Fords (daily driver is a '68 Galaxie) and a few Ford trucks, but never with a v6, and never one for $200!!!! The only v6 Ford I ever owned was an '03 Taurus, good car for what it was, but just like MOBodyman said, overheated, blew headgasket, re-arranged the engine internals at 170K, cost more to replace engine than car was worth. Oh, well, I've got a good donor for interior parts. If the v6 doesn't work out, should be an easy 4.6 or 5.0 swap.

I have a 97 F150 XLT reg cab flareside with the 4.6. I really like this V8. I have a 99 crown vic with the 4.6 also. Doesn't sound like you need to replace but if you did I would consider and upgrade. The only other thing I've heard these modular engines do is spit out spark plugs...normally you hear some air escaping first...pfff..pfff..then pop..:)

Plus it has a rebuilt tranny...geez 200 bucks that's a deal and a half. I bought mine use probably at least 7yrs ago still going strong. I call it my Mustang with a bed.

I have the same wheels on mine and they are actually nice aluminum wheels they will polish up real nice. I may even have some extra center caps that I could make you a deal on.

congrats on the truck, it's ugly. LOL Not gonna lie to ya buddy! But I hope it serves you well for many years to come!

A buddy of mine has a set of black crager soft 8's he said I can have that came off his 99 f150....so I will probably snatch them up (oh yeah......the truck has new tires all the way around too!!!! even better $200.00 score lol).

I have been calling it my Ef Wan Fitty LOL.

Trust me , I have combed over the v8 idea.....but I am not mch of a fan of the mod motors ( timing chain tensioners and over head cams are the main reason) but yes they do accel smooth and make good power. a buddy of mine had a 5.4l and he had that same spark plug issue ....happened a few times, but the last time it left debris in the cylinder and smoked the engine.

IF I were to v8 it, I would just go big lol, I would drop a 460 or a 400 in it,they are everywhere around here and normally for pretty cheap. Alot of ford truck guys in this area with all the mud boggin that goes on.

but for now, I will stick with the 4.2 , I already have one V8 to satisfy my hotrod needs and thats my Duster

nice 351 would be okay too...I've got 140K on my Crown and it's still going strong..I only have about 117K on the truck...they are both pretty quick for what they are 281 cubic inches baby...wow...but they look as big as a 460..:)

That is a heck of a deal, and about the only way I would own a "non-Dodge," :D

I would fix it, then "flip it" and get a Dodge!

OOops, I guess Fiat doesn't want us to call them Dodges anymore, my bad. :banghead:

lol, I had my 97 ram short bed reg cab,4x4 360 and I LOVED it.....but I had to get rid of it last year so I could get the wife her 99 4x4 5.9 durango , she liked it because it was purple, I liked it because it was mopar and we really needed the family vehicle because loading a car seat in my truck and going places all together cramed in a single cab was getting old lol.

so this ford will atleast give myself a daily driver again.

If you decide to V8, a nice 5.0 based strocker (347) engine...
Superchargers abound for this car, and turbo kits are very easy to fabricate on 5.0 platform... :)

Great deal. My 04 Ram was giving me all indications of a blown 5.7 too. But like you said, once I got under it pulled the tranny dust cover off the bolts were all coming out. tightened then and now she runs great again. So good luck....

BUMMER.......well, got under the truck and pull the inspection plate off and rotated the fly wheel and checked all the converter bolts and they are all tight.

so it was wishful thinking but not correct thinking lol, looks like its back to being a blown motor lol.

no big deal though, for what I paid....oh well.

I bought the truck in the first place thinking it would need an engine so its not like it came out of left field or anything.
