Hello Gang,

Just a quick note to keep everyone updated on the progress of my '68 Valiant sedan. I just got it back from the shop after having a major tuneup performed on it. This was the first tuneup that I have had done on the car since I purchased the car back in July '03. The car needed new points, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. The car had started backfiring before I had the servicing performed. This had started to worry me that something was really wrong with the car. I had the car towed in to prevent any damage to the engine. I will be having the carb rebuilt (and or/replaced) soon. The technician adjusted the carb the best he could. He said that it should be either rebuilt or replaced with a new unit. The car has a Carter BBD 2 bbl carb currently. He said that several other carbs could fit my engine w/o modifications. What carbs would work with the 2 bbl. stock configuration with the 273 V8? What are the feelings among the group about rebuilt/remanned units? I have heard that the correct way to tackle the problem is to have the original carb rebuilt rather than having a remanned unit installed..What would a rebuild entail? I do know that the flapper on the carb is a little loose. Could a rebuild fix this? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for answering my questions.

Sincerely yours,

Brian T. Carotenuto

Let's see some pics of her :D! I highly recommend switching to elec ignition. It's quick, easy & you gain much more relaibility & gas milage. They do make a 600cfm 2bbl carb:D

The rebuild kits are pretty basic & come w/ gaskets, needle & seat & diaphram. They are pretty simle to rebuild & come w/ an instruction sheet.I'd never attempt to rebuild a thermoquad, soooooo many tiny parts :(. Demonsizzler is the best around,I hear

junk the BBD and find a motorcraft (ford) 2100 series 2bbl. they were available on mid 8o's ford trucks and full size broncos. alot of jeep guys make this swap and never look back. the motorcraft is a much better carb. they came in two sizes that i'm aware of, you'll probably want the smaller one. it requires a carb adapter, easy to find at auto parts store. take the BBD and throw it as far as you can.
