I went over to my friend Brandon's muscle car resto shop today to shoot the **** with him about my Dart project. While there he got a phone call from one of his customers. Brandon asked if I wanted to come along with him and meet the guy at his house. He said I would be impressed with his collection. He was right!!
Do you remember hearing about the catastrophe at the Russo Steele auction in Scottsdale, AZ last year? A big storm blew through and collapsed the auction tents down on the cars causing 100s of thousands, if not millions in damages.
The guy we went to visit had a '70 GTO Judge there. One of the tent poles fell across his hood and windshield, collapsed the A-pillar, and dented the roof.
The guy is a Pontiac nut. He had the '70 Judge, a '69 Judge, '65 and '66 GTOs and an old Tempest race car which looked like it stepped right off a 1960s dragstrip in it's period correct red white and blue paint job.
He also had a Hemi Roadrunner convertable, '63 Plymouth Fury, '69 Firebird, LS6 Chevelle, and an AMC Pacer with a 351 Windsor that had been setup as a pro-street car
There were probably another dozen cars on top of those, but they weren't as interesting to me as the ones I already mentioned.
He had three guys working for him to keep all these cars up and to help him go through new acquisitions as he buys them.
His largest building was probably 150x60. At the far end he built a replica of a 1940s gas station. The place was full of car art, diecast models etc. A real car guy!!
He doesn't like publicity about his place so he didn't want me to take photos or disclose the location, but I did find these photos online of his GTO right after the tent collapse.
I was sure glad to be in the right place at the right time today it was an honor to be among all those Detroit legends
:burnout:
