anybody use antifreeze to kill unwanted grass and weeds. google says it will kill grass and weeds, as does my neighbor. thought i might try some on the grass in the sidewalk tracks, unless someone has a horror story.

animals can tend to be attracted to antifreeze due to the ethylene glycol it contains. it also contaminates ground water.

so yeah. use roundup or something specifically designed for weed control.

Round Up is not safe to use and also pollutes groundwater. My groundwater is polluted with pesticides. I also have neurological damage from handling antifreeze incorrectly for years. Neither is safe.

Try this. safe DIY alternative.

DIY Grass Killer Recipe (Non-Selective)

Ingredients:
  • 1 gallon white vinegar (5% acidity — stronger if available)
  • 1 cup salt (table salt or rock salt)
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap (Dawn or similar)
Instructions:
  1. In a large bucket or sprayer, mix the salt into the vinegar until completely dissolved.
  2. Add dish soap and gently stir. The soap helps the mixture stick to leaves.
  3. Pour into a spray bottle or garden sprayer.
Application:
  • Spray directly onto grass or weeds on a dry, sunny day.
  • Avoid spraying before rain — it dilutes the solution.
  • You should see results within hours, with full kill in 24–48 hours.
⚠️ Notes:
  • Non-selective: This will kill or damage any plant it touches — grass, flowers, garden veggies, etc.
  • Soil impact: Salt can remain in soil and prevent future growth. Use sparingly if you plan to replant the area.
  • For a no-salt option, just use vinegar and dish soap — it still works, but regrowth may happen sooner.
Optional Boost (for tough grass):
  • Add ½ teaspoon of clove oil or orange oil to increase burn-down effect (optional, but natural and effective).

I use Brush Cutter from the farm store. It'll kill any plant it touches.
I use that for volunteer trees. Cut the tree off and paint the end of the stump with a foam brush. It kills the root.

Death by Antifreeze is a cruel, painful death.
They go blind, then the renal system quits.
Never leave uncovered pans of drained antifreeze where animals/rodents/birds, anything that's thirsty in summer with no water.

Please ! !

Gas is great plant killer, and no critter will try to drink it .

Thank-you

Salt does an amazing job in killing vegetation.

Just keep it away from your concrete driveway and side walks, as it will also do a great job killing them in a few years.
