Don't know him, but I think the Gray Mouser is from Fritz Leibers series of books about two Men , Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, who travel around having "sword and sorcery" type adventures. Great stories. Or it could have nothing to do with that...........

That was always my assumption as well - boy, been a LONG time since I read those...
