Have this exact problem on a 74 Duster - I've played with timing and vacuum advance but nothing would help. Apparently, the slant 6 metal fuel line and carb are prone to heatsoaking after the car is shut off which leads to fuel boiling and/or vapor lock. Found a solution that, although only through one day of driving so far, seemed to work for me. Replace metal line from pump to carb with 5/16 ID fuel injection rubber hose. I believe its called the "fuel line mod" on several slant 6 forums.

Yup, do the fuel line mod. Also make sure your manifold heat control valve isn't stuck in the heat-on position.

my 225 did that

ripped it out, dropped in a 360 and never a problem since ;)

fuel line mod and a thick gasket under the carb will also help also i would use a 180 thermostat i was running a 195 for a while and i had that problem alot more
