Dear mike,

Thank you so much for standing with us in our fight to save baby seals. Our efforts are making an impact and your continued actions bring us one step closer to ending the annual commercial seal hunt in Canada.

But today the news from Canada remains bleak. The Canadian government has ignored findings from independent scientists and veterinarians and set the kill quota even higher than last year -- an astonishing 275,000 seals, almost all babies just days or weeks of age, will be clubbed and shot over the next few months. Scientists warn that the seal hunt poses a threat to the survival of seal populations, particularly as harp seals now face the added threat of global warming. And veterinary panels have concluded that the slaughter results in "considerable and unacceptable suffering," noting that sealers often fail to comply with anti-cruelty laws. That's why I'm asking for your help to send a strong message to the Canadian government to end the seal slaughter.

I got this in my mail from the humane site that I get mail from meekly.
I would like to here from the great Canadian people he have here.
Is this true? Or is it like the chicken hawk we have here.:read2:

I put the Canadian flag out on this post!!
I am from Arkansas, and ramcharger lives in usa.

I think you'll have to get some info from the Canadian members. There's always two sides to the story, and harp seals could be like prairie dogs out in the western US.

Hey Mike I'm Canadian, but sorry I'm not too well educated on the subject. The only facts I know are: I've seen video of the hunts and it is disgusting and disturbing to watch so I have a hard time supporting it in any way! Our government up here is much like any other bunch poloticians they have their heads up their butts so far they cannot hear the appeals for change coming from the general population no matter what the concern is. Many well known people have protested against this hunt over the years with little or no impact, I think Paul McCarteny and his crazy ex-wife were the latest to go on camera to protest. I think there has been issues with keeping the seal population down as too many of these cute creatures causes a negative impact on the fisheries industry, which is a big source of income for many on the east coast. Not 100% sure on that but I remember reading something to that effect, at least on the side that argues for the hunt, maybe just a false reason for doing the yearly hunt. Maybe some fellow Canucks out on the east coast can give you a better low down. All I know is it seems to me there is more humane ways to conduct this annual hunt than the aweful footage we've seen on the documentaries regarding it. Good luck.....we've got lots of issues up here we'd like to see our gov clamp down on and they never seem to get it. To much money being slipped into poloticians back pockets that makes them DEAF and DUMB! Like I said good luck!
