Sorry this is a stupid question but I was wondering how to find out which heads I have without taking them off. In example x heads or j heads. I have a 1969 318 that is the original engine for my barracuda. I'm a newbie at locating all the casting numbers.

Usually on an intake runner, under the valve cover....

"J" or "X" casting is on outside of valve cover, near spark plug hole...

The casting numbers for the head should be under the valve cover. There you can see both the castnumber as well as the date code. Good luck.

Thanks that's where I thought they would be but I wasn't sure

Can anybody tell me what this casting number means 2843675-22

Awesome I didn't find a casting of j or x the only thing I sed stamped outside is a 22 and a 123 with a rain drop

No X or J...then they aren't X or J heads. They're standard small block, small port late 60's heads.

X heads are 2531894
J heads are 3418915

...and are open-chambers
