stock bottom end 360.. bored 0.060 over... adding sidewinder aluminum heads with ARP bolts... what is a good head gasket to run? i have heard so many options from a fel pro to a mopar brand to a cometic..

Shouldn't need anything special.

Felpro offerings...
Pt 8553 around .046-.048 compressed

1008 .039 compressed 'steel reinforcement ng type'.

519sd .052-.054 compressed.

Thickness might depend on where the pistons are relative to the deck. Below deck you can run about anything safely. At or above deck you need to pay attention to thickness so you end up with at least .035" minimum for clearance to the head when the piston is rocked at TDC. If it isn't above 10:1 compression the material isn't going to make much of a difference. Cometic need better surface finish on the deck and head.

So, would the FelPro 1008 be the best thing to use on a low-compression 273?

So I'll see if I can find the fel pro 1008 with a 4.060 bore.

Iirc all the mainsrream LA heads gaskets nowadays are 4.080...huge on a 273! Find us a small bore one.

So I looked and the fel pro 1008 is only offered in 4.180 bore. Thats a big step from the 4.060 I need.

There are some mr gasket, .027 thick or something? but I hear mostly about failures with them...
Check those out. I just posted the felpro versions.

You can spend 160 and have cometic make you some at the bore you desire and thickness.

The Felpro 1008 will work just fine, that is what I have on my 13:1 compression motor. Used this gasket for many years (20+), no failures....and I have used them with relatively stock applications, nitrous motors, and high compression applications.

so it will work even though the bore size on it is 4.180 and mine is 4.060?

Yes, all my motors have been 4.030-4.040. Most of the head gaskets are larger than the actual bore of the cylinder (at least the ones I googled real quick).

For what it worth, my current motor is 0.030 over 360 that is stroked to 408, with the Felpro 1008, 13:1 compression on e85, runs low 10's, no head gasket issues...
