Hi Guys,
So I found these for sale, *Guy says they are 68-71 318 X heads* but the casting numbers leave with questions that I am hoping I hope y'all can assist me with with answers.

In one of the pics you can clearly see a "X" casted?
In another you can see a casting number 28436752, but the "2" is MUCH larger than the rest of the 2843675 (which seems weird and makes me wonder why?)
There is a casting number of 2843675 without the 2 elsewhere, but no enlarged "2"

Here are a few pics of the X heads I brought home the other day .
You can see the X’s are large and prominent,,,,both outside and underneath .
And the casting number is 2531894 . These heads were cast in 68 .

These pics were sent to me by Mtrhead ( Will ),,,,and I’m very glad I purchased them .
I also got another excellent set of rockers with Banana shafts .
Very happy with everything I have bought from Will in the past few months .
Good guy to deal with and is very knowledgeable on his Mopar stuff !

Heads with casting number 2843675 were originally used on 1968-1974 318 engines and 1968-1969 273 engines.

The large "2" cast after the 2843675 is a mold revision. It is larger to distinguish it from the casting number itself. In some instances, the designation is used with a dash. Example: 2843675-2.

The AAWJ denotes the Chrysler Indianapolis foundry that was on Tibbs Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The 1190 indicates that the head was cast on September 3, 1970. The head was likely installed on a 1971 model engine.

The "X" foundry mark is meaningless regarding the 318 head application. Some 340 heads had an "X" foundry mark cast in multiple spots. In the case of the 340 head, the external "X" can be used to identify it as a 1968-1970 casting number 2531894.

I believe X heads also say "340" on them somewhere under the valve cover whereas J heads will say "360" etc.

Yes,,,you are right,,,340 under the cover area .
I just took these pics a few moments ago .

Also,,,Vaanth knows his stuff,,,,he’s pretty sharp on the foundry information .
Here are several pics just now ,,,these are both heads,,,cast on the same day .

Nothing special. Just stock standard 318 heads. Don't get ripped off.
Which is why I asked lol... he says they are "X" heads and there is an "X" and I wanted to verify... at the same time, he's only asking $75 so probably not a bad deal anyways lol

Nonetheless, it's not the X head he's trying to make it out to be. Just because his price is good, doesn't keep him from being an idiot. lol

Casting number is always best. X heads are 894 J head is 915 etc. problem with alot of stuff is guys that don't know think Mopar stuff is gold. I had a neighborhood Chevy guy approach me once with "Mopar Ralley wheels" I took a look they were off an early 80s Dodge Omni...
