I think that's a good idea. You'll KNOW for sure what you have. Keep up with how much you mill off and post it back, ok?

Unless you get head gaskets made for your specific application, just about every one produced is for up to a 4.060" bore. Even the current Felpro set that's made for the 273and 318 has the large 4.060" head gaskets. The 273 is at 3.63" so you'll loose a little compression.
I looked at the Direct COnnection Performance Book (circa 1980) and it says to remove 0.0053 per 1 cc on the chamber side and 0.0095" from the intake side per 0.010" removd from the head. So it's eother 0.0053"., 0.0064" or 0.0065". Take your pick.
