When I put my dash back together on a table, all new wires, I went cheap and used the old headlight switch. I now qualify for the dumbass award.

While chasing electric gremlins, it proved to be jamming, not making good contact and not adjusting dash lights. I broke down and bought a new one, delivered to my house in one day for $12.50. Boy, I was going to save money there.

Removing the old and installing the new one took about 1.5 hrs of back work, under the dash and crawling around for tools or parts.

All dash lights are now brighter, but the two that previously did not work are quite a bit dimmer than the rest. Guess I will be cleaning contacts and grounding the instrument housing this weekend.

Moral of the story, don’t trust 55 yr old inexpensive and readily available parts.

It can be a bit of a Catch-22, considering the quality of some of the replacement parts out there- it pays to hang on to the originals. There've been a number of times when I cured an elusive ignition problem by slapping in a 50 year old original ignition module, for instance... and don't get me started on voltage regulators!

I have taken apart and rebuilt OEM headlight switches before. I prefer that to new coming from who knows where. Glad yours worked.
