There's the problem. Never have anyone hurting for money do anything as it always turns into a quagmire.. I learned that years ago..
...Told me to put my lil heater ni the car for a couple hours a day for two weeks, and if it didnt fix it, he would come back and poss re stretch it and or use heat gun. 5 weeks after the initial 2 weeks of heating it hes MIA,
No communications back to me. Wich tells me he has wiped his hands clean and wont be coming back. Sad as he raved on how he always backs up his work....
I'd be more concerned about the spot at this point. That ain't stretching out. Did he supply the material? Unless there is some way that that is the fault of you or the car, he needs to fix it. Otherwise, I would be looking for a refund and start over with someone else.
Does he make a living doing this? If he has a decent reputation he'll want to get it to a point that you are satisfied. I'd stay on him till he makes it right. I definitely would not give up without talking to him. Maybe a good reason he has not been responding (or not)
Make some noise! How did you get the guy in the first place? If word of mouth - it travels both ways -start talking and he will get the message.
Ok, my screen wasn't showing the last few posts... Maybe that approach won't work if he ain't making money from doing this...
Sucks if you were trying to help him by giving work and he stiffs you. If you think he can help you get it right, I'd still stay on him to try and get it fixed.
Sorry to say this but those sags are not coming out w/heat. I would try and remove the glued areas at the windlace and sail panels and try and stretch it to smooth things out. At the windlace, once stretched and reglued, use spring clips or those black large clips that hold papers together to keep things taught while the glue sets up. Loosen the glue at the base of the sail panles and try and stretch it in place.
I did my headliner myself and came out real nice. Here is a tip, I used a 500 watt halogen lamp pointed uwpward at the healiner and got it nice n toasty. Once warmed, I was able to stretch it in place. Over time, the warm sun will take out some small wrinkles but it won't work on those you have.
Sorry to say this but the guy really butchered yours up. Headliners are cheap. You could have done it yourself, ruined 2 of them, installed the 3rd one, and still be ahead of the game.
There are a lot of posts on line to do DIY.
That's shoddy work right there. I honestly doubt the guy has any idea what he was doing. Sorry you got taken. Best of luck in getting it fixed or done better.
I think that can be stretched out and tightened up without replacing the headliner. You might need to get a pro to come look at it and maybe he wont beat you up to bad to pull it tight and finish it up.
I went and re-looked at your pictures, I think he could have made that headliner work with putting proper tension and heat. Do you know if he used the two tension rods for the back side of the hedliner? Do you have your original sail panels? You can make new ones even if your originals are beat up. I had to on my Valiant. I would save up buy the new material and re-do it. If you can get a friend to help an extra set of hands always helps.
Regardless of whether the pieces of board really "do anything" or not, I would get my money back. 275 dollars is a lot of money in these hard times for somebody to do a messed up job on your car. Sorry that happened.
Alan, I was thinking did you try calling the guy that did your headliner from a different phone number, maybe he will p/u. It might work then at least you can vent to him. Even if you don't get anything else out of him you can give him a piece of your mind.Good Luck bud and keep your chin up.
Heat will not take out some of those wrinkles.I would pull the edges loose a little at a time pull it tight and re-glue it.Small wrinkles spray will water and go over the area with a blow dryer. On a hot day spray the wrinkle area with water and leave the windows up.
