I took my 340 J heads in about 8 weeks ago to be rebuilt, need compleate rebuild 1000 bucks Don does not have a 1000 right now. Engine builder says lets see the heads of the org 360 well to day he says there bad, in the hot tank wont no more until there out.I cant win.Anyone close to me that has a set of heads 340 or 360 that are good and I could bolt on.I am ready to give up on my hobby even if the wife leaves me I almost had it.:angry7:

whats bad? sometimes they tell you its bad and they are not. try a budget rebuilder like a napa shop or a auto part store that has machine service they are used to just rebuilding the even if its worn bad tell them you just want a basic rebuild. if the heads are cracked then its a diff story

The heads are at Carquest this build is very well know around here for building race engines. Not sure what he ment so at this point I am clueless.

As long as ther are no bent valves, or cracks in the castings, I've lapped the valves by hand, cleaned everything up real well, and put new seals and freeze plugs in and run heads for another year or two (or longer....) because I didn't have the $$ to go have them done. Was it the best, NO, did it still run? YES.... I'd find out what all is wrong and go from there....

Man I would be able to come up with 500 bucks,I am worling on my 8 3/4 geting it ready to install.

Buy a set of budget iron heads and run them. I think they can still be had for $500.

Snake,i have been telling people about the best place to get heads for the cheapest money and there ready to bolt on ,for so long i can't remember when i started???

Snake, The number is 1-317-862-0223 aerohead racing (ask for JIM)

Holy add for Indy/Aerohead...lol. They are cheap, but quality is NOT part of the deal. I've bought and used them on budget builds so I'd second the suggestion. But they are not anywhere close to great heads...lol. Neither has much of the mcahine work that comes direct from Indy. Great parts. But not ready to run in any way...lol.

hey moper,(((WITH ALL DUE RESPECT)))
I was not doing a add for indy,in fact i have never even used anything from indy.
The machine shop has been around for ever under areohead racing and i have never really heard anything bad about them.
I have seen there add's for so long i can't remember and it looks like great parts for the money.
You said you used them on budget builds (more then one engine build )but you also said there not quaility and not ready to run????????????????????

If you truly build engines all the time ,why would you use a head from a place that does crap work, and then do it again???????
AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY NOT READY TO RUN ANYWAY??????????
YOU SAID YOU ALSO SECOND MY SUGGESTION????

YOU HAVE :violent1: A WAY OF TALKING THAT I'M NOT SURE HOW TO TAKE

WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE HEADS???????
YOU LEFT THAT PART OUT.

You can buy Eddy heads for that price,I,d try a different builder.:read2:

Just my thoughts on heads.
A race shop would want to put as many new parts - valves, springs, keepers, seats & guides into a cylinder head as they can. Their reputation depends on their quality and "no problems with their product". Thus $1000.00 bill.
I'm sure someone could get your heads useable for less than half ot that.
Aero Racing head prices are good for what you get & you could sell your 340 & 360 heads and recover some of the money.
Do you want to sell your old heads?

I cant speak from experience here, but if aerohead is like buying direct from Indy, i would never do it...Indy stuff is the type of stuff from what im told that you buy somewhere else and must have work done to it, no questions asked..

what i can say from experience though is that moper doesnt talk outta his ***, and im sure he can clarify...i think what he meant is that yes they are a decent head, and yes they can be ran otb, but they REALLY should be gone through to be on the safe side and make any adjustments/changes nescessary

T, I apologize if you didn't understand it. Truthfully I find it hard to write in your unique style...lol. I have used Aerohead twice, and Indy a few times. The first time I used them was for a set of 452 big block heads, I think around 1990. They were new on the block and were getting coverage in magazines at the time. I was taken in by the hype and bought a set for a customer of mine. The shop I used at the time was owned by the guy who also was my tech school instructor. He looked at them when I brought one in and we disected the work. What we found was average quality parts with average quality machining. The surface finish is too rough for good gaskets but stock type stuff works fine. The seats were 3 angle cut with no lapping and were out of round by anywhere from .0002 to .010. Yes, that's ten thousanths out of round. It will seal eventually but it's crap work. Also, the seat depths were all over, which leads to geometry issues in Mopars. For $399 plus shipping at the time they were a good deal for the cash, but by no means what my mentor or me consider performance. In terms anyone can understand... You want to eat out. You choices are MacDonalds, Olive Garden, or Mario Batali's Babbo. In all three you get food and leave full. The costs are very different. Some get sick on Macdonalds, but for some it's the only eating out they can afford. I expect cheaper stuff to need work to get to what I use for standards. However Indy heads have the same issues, only you can add the guides being too tight, and remove the surface finish. Otherwise, good product, poor execution. Now, all this being said.... You read an ad and accepted it at face value. It's cool to recommend a place strongly if you have a history with them. But as I understood your post.. it sounded like you've had great results from them. Hence the "add" comment of mine. The difference between hype and fact is always experience.

BINGO! I dont think ive ever read anything dave wrote that i dont agree with lol...thanks for the info dave!

Moper,
Thanks for the reply and the information.
When someone gives such a strong opinion as you did, with out the reason why, it leaves us wondering how true it is.
Again thanks for the reason why:thumrigh:

I have also heard bad things about indy.
I have also heard bad things about every big player in the game.
Do i think the bad storys are true????
YES I DO \\\\
When i buy parts, i check everything before i use it ,and it has to pass a level of quaility that i alone set as a standard for my cars.
Snake was only looking for a stock redone head and thats what he will get.
I am with you on the quality of there products being sub standard.

What happens in the real world the longer your in it???

Your eye gets better from dealing with things from a performance stand point and what you use to think was ok is now seen for what it is.(junk)

Does it mean that the basic engine will not work or last \\ NO
As you know ,if you took a stock head to a head porter he would laugh at the stock valve guides and valve job on a brand new head.
Will it work on the motor the way it was made---yes
Do i think you can get better quality for $400 --NO
Basic napa quality work with new parts for free.
Basic motor \\\ basic parts.
It's a great head for a basic 318 stock motor.
If you want to start racing and get everything you can out of your 318,by no means is this gonna be good enough.
If things were good enough for us, we would not be hot rodders.
