What is your car doing to make you think your carb is hot?
Do you have a spacer now?

I had a car that was hard to start after sitting on a hot day(vapor lock)?
I only had the base gasket between the intake and carb.
I added a 1" phenolic spacer and the problem completely went away.

car runs good i've adjusted the carb alot and never noticed the carb being hot before is all i have the twin scoops with the holes cut in the hood but it still gets hot under there i have a 1 inch spacer on it with 340 iron intake the heat transfers are blocked off

What spacer is under there now?

The phenolic resin spacers retard heat transfer best. Thicker the better. 4 hole over open. A heat sheild is even better to add.

i have a i inch open spacer on it now but i do have a 4hole phenolic inch spacer that i used with th old torker intake i tried i'll put it on and the sheild when i get a chance i bought a 360+727 4 a hundred dollars today but i had to pull it out of a rv what a pain so i'll be getting it on the stand and tore down tomrrow

I have been noticing the same problem now that isummer is here. I only have 1/2 inch to work and ordered the wood spacer from Eddy. Will it work as well as Phenolic? Should I order a phenolic and try to cut it down to 1/2 inch. I could only find 1 inch in the phenolic style.

i've never tried a wood one seen em in catalogs mabey someone can shed some info. your saying you only have a half inch of clearance

Wood is better than phenolic resin, phenolic resin is better than aluminum.

Wood may warp or become fuel soked. The only draw back to it. But there also cheap and could be made at home.

Are any of the phenolic spacers made to fit the Holley 1920 one barrel carb? Perhaps that is the issue I am having about fuel bubbling out of the fuel filter when the car is hot and turned off?

I take it you have a slant with the 1920?

Not aware of a phenolic spacer for you.The stock 1/2" gasket should be fine.If your carb is mounted directly to the intake with a thin gasket, then ya you could have some heat(vapor lock) issues.

Hey Mr 318,
You still didnt answer if you were having driveability issues.
Are you having issues with driveability?

Any carb is going to feel hot to the touch, look at its location, right on top of a fire breathing combustion engine.

It is your car,and by no means am I telling you what to do with it.But I just dont see the reason for a heat shield. If everything is in proper working order and adjusted acordingly.

Yes, sorry, slant 6 engine. Carb is using the thick gasket under it so I should be okay then. Just have the issue of the fuel bubbling away in the clear fuel filter until it is dry. Got a reply on another post saying that it should be okay. Just may take 5 or 10 seconds for the fuel pump to fill it back up again when restarting after a run.
Cheers
