Grandpa's Swinger
Member
Hi all,
I actually joined ABodies a while back but got distracted and forgot to properly introduce myself. Name's Doug and my handle refers to my 1973 Dodge Dart swinger that was bought new by my Father's Father in Southern California. He drove the car until he passed away. My Grandmother continued to drive the car until she was 90! She decided to stop driving at that age and gave the car to her son. That man, my Father took the car to Florida and kept it 10 years until he decided to give it to me. A friend and I traveled to Pensacola Florida 16 years ago and drove the car back to Seattle in a 3,000 mile road trip that is another story I may post later. I still have this car, now with 125,000 miles on the original 318 V8 that is only now starting to use a little oil (mostly through a rear main seal leak) and gets driven on a regular basis. It is a great car and I have come to love and appreciate it.
I just recently bought a 1963 Dart 270 Convertible, found through a business associate. This car is similar in the fact that it also had remained in the original owner's family since being bought new here in the Seattle area in 1963. The car is actually in pretty decent shape, having been cared for and kept mostly out of the weather for the past 48 years. I have been getting this car back on the road (so far new water pump, brake master cyl, muffler, etc) and I will be looking to sell her since I have only one indoor parking spot and can't bear to have either of these cars spend much time outdoors. It really does rain here. A lot.
I am trying to get an idea of what this 1963 car might be worth. I want the car to go to some one who will care for it and care about it. The car is all original with the exception of the new mechanicals I have been adding. No body rot! All trim in place! (except one headlamp trim ring) Also 124k miles (go figure, although my 73 has traveled an average of 3289 miles per year since new, this one averaged 2583 per year since new). I have got it back on the road and it is a pretty fun car to drive. Wish I had space to keep them both but my Dad would have a fit if I got rid of "his" car...he's still very much alive, celebrated his 89th in May.
Anyway, long first post but hope it was of interest.
I wish all my fellow Mopar enthusiasts well on this day of solemn remembrance. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been born in the greatest nation that has ever existed.
