Never heard of a "Race Package" other than Super Stock cars and there were no 69 superstock cars.

Vin# will help a lot!

Certainly is something I've never heard of.. would be interested in seeing some pics and numbers. I've only heard of 8-3/4s in those.

Nice to see you were able to keep it.

i got it home and got the tag off so i could read and it reads

E55 D21 LM23 P9B 399909

VIN# F8D2XX9602353533

I think that is it there is some rust and old paint so its sorta hard to read im going to put some paint solvent on it later this week to make sure but as far as i can tell thats it. I'll get some picture as soon as i can. just spent the last 30 hr in the truck in the last two days need to get some sleep. but finally at last shes here!!!!!!!! need a little help de codeing the tag got the vin figured out any ideas?

Going by your fender tag listing,it looks like you have a Dark Green 69 340 Swinger four speed car that came with no options and even had the rear stripe deleted. It was built in the Hamtramck plant on June 2 1969 which would be late build for the model year and the VIN number is LM23P9B399909.

Sounds like it was ordered strictly for speed and to be a sleeper but does'nt appear to have been ordered new with any special option packages or special rearend.

it looks like its got biger leaf springs one side has extra leafs in it and did they all come with disc brakes in the front. is their any numbers on the rear end i can look for to help find out what it has same with the four speed. is their any physical way to look at eather one and tell did they come diffrent like i know on an auto trans you can see the diffrent trans pan between the 727 and 904 thanks to any one that has posted every bit helps.

The only race-specific package for '69 Darts was the 440 Dart GTS
( LS23M9B ) , and the only "A" body to ever have a factory-installed Dana 60 was the '68 Hurst-Hemi Super Stock ( LO23M8B ) .

thanks on the vin you where right i had it written down but put the wrong one up was tired when i did it. i was talking to my dad that acutally bought the car in 1984 and he swears that it was built strickly for racing he knew the orrigal owner and i guess he raced the guy in the early 80s with his 68 coronet 440 with a 440 in it and 3.23'sand got smoked by it he also tells me that it is a super rare one only a few where made like this and only a few of them remain he is adamit about the rear end gears being dana 60 4.11 sure grip and the four speed aslo told me if its restored back to as close to origanl (with the excption of the motor cause that was gone when he got it) that it could be a $200,000 car it needs lots of tlc i have know clue what i got here i found a guy hear in columbia sc that can take the id tag and decode it to get a factory build sheet.

i do not believe you have a 200,000 car, even if you put 200k into it. it is not one of the rare hemi darts. point blank.

and listen. IT MAY HAVE BEEN ORDERED STRICTLY FOR RACING. WE DO NOT DOUBT THAT. THAT IS WHY IT HAS NO OPTIONS. BUT STILL NEVER CAME WITH A HEMI. AND ONLY THE HEMI DARTS WERE BUILT FOR RACE ONLY.
even though the person that bought it new, and ordered it the way he did, still does not make it a race only car. only in that guys mind, which he chose to buy it stripped of all goodies

So you know.. your fender tag as listed shows the car as being an almost no optioned car. This is often looked at as being "built for the purpose of racing". No power brakes, no extra trim etc. Normally if a car was a "special order" package, the fender tag would have a code like Y39 indicating so.

Also, it is impossible to get a factory build sheet made up based on the fendertag information alone. The build sheet does contain important information of which parts the car was built with on the line, but just guessing at these codes IS impossible.

It is possible that the original build sheet is located in the car. It is commonly found behind the rear seat, on top of the glovebox (reach from under the dash), under the carpet, or possibly behind the seatback on the front seats (buckets). The only other way to 100% verify that things are original (especially the Dana) would be to verify that the VIN (or portion of) is stamped into it.

i never said any thing about a hemi i know it didnt come with one and i know that it was made for not just the track. im just trying to find out what it is all about i have no clue just trying to see what i got. did all 69's 340 swingers come with disc brakes and extra leaf springs???

Right, it was built for the track only................................. In the eyes of the origional person that ordered it with no options.

But , still does not make it a special order, or purpose built car, sorry

I am pretty sure that disc brakes were optional on Swinger 340s. They were built (offered) as a low-buck version of the Dart. As opposed to the Dart GT & GTS versions. They became standard on 1970 340 Swinger.

There should be a stamped # on the tranny that has the matching last digits to the VIN

2852905

1969 - 70 B-body - 8.25 - 10 bolt cover

Normal rear end for 69 Swinger 340 was the beefier 8-3/4"

The Vin# ID is found on the raised pad.. starting in 68 I believe
