when I press and release my brake pedal I get a drip of brake fluid from around the grommet that surrounds the brake rod at the firewall. How can I fix this problem...can I just replace the grommet? Also, the brake pedal does not fully return/release. I have to pull it back the last few inches to get the brake light to go off.

I'd replace the master cylinder myself

X2, as it is possible that the leak and not returning are related.
Either way, it leaks and needes replaced anyway.
(doesn't matter if it's new either) same answer.

And wash off all the brake fluid fast before it removes the paint. The MC bore is probably rusted, causing the leak, and very dangerous to drive like that. Flush thru new brake fluid every few years to avoid rust (unless you use DOT 5). Your wheel cylinders (or calipers) may be next to go and imbalance switch (or combination valve) depending on year.
