Hemi Under Glass Last Ride

-

We seen him at St. Louis later that year at Monster Mopar, he is a real nice guy, not too many of these old drag racers are as nice. Ronnie Sox was also extremely nice and polite.

The guy that drove the backup pickup was Holley Swindle, he was from St. Louis and had a shop in north St. Louis/St. Louis co. Unfortunately he had passed away a few years ago but I ran into him at swap meets pretty regularly. Holley was trying to buy one of my 65 Barracudas from me back in the early 90's to build another wheel stander at the same time Bob Riggle was getting back into it. I had a running drivable 4spd car that he wanted but I was asking $1500 and he only wanted to give me $500 for it. It was kinda funny, he kept saying that it was a good offer since the stigma of being the previous owner of a wheel stander was worth the $1000. ???

That's a BADASS vid.
Most Excellent fined.
His retirement rocker is sweet!

Thank you waggin :happy10::happy10: I met him a couple time's in Ill and in Fla. and seen him make some people go crazy many times when I was a young gun.
Looking back in time sure gets my emotion out of control :clock:
I some time's forget the great times I got to be blest with in my life.
The rocking chair sure did it for me :happy10:.

It would be cool to paint Victoria the same way and put this on the side.

Slant With Class

Thanks Waggs!

That was very enjoyable.....

Saw them at Indy in the mid to late sixties. These are from 1969

Thanks, Waggin. That brought back a lot of memories from both my early drag racing attendance and the Mopars At The Strip event where that was done.

I met Bob Riggle @ Spring Fling around 2000. THey had the car there and fired it up occasionally....made me weak in my knees! I got a shirt signed by him and wore it so much that it only lasted 2 years..!!!lol..

couldnt watch the video,,,my puter kept telling me if i watch it it may make my computer run slow,,,,, bob brought the hemi under glass back to action in 1986,, at that time he didnt have a deal with hurst.,...the car only showed the H,,, and HEMI,, not HURST,,,, in 2000 or 2001 bob riggle asked me to be a tow vehicle for him at the mopars at englishtown,,,then again at the 2002 mopar nats,,but he didnt need it a tthe nats his team mate found a ATV tol do the towing,,,but ill never forget the experience and pics i have from hanging out with him all day at englishtown,,,,

Great video Waggin!! Bob Riddle is a true legend. I wish I had the chance to see him live...

he sold both the the 66 and the 68 to a collector in the chicago area,,,,, last i heard he still has the orignal 1968 that he built,, it was found a few years ago sitting in a drive way in canada,,bob went and bought it back to restore it,, he and his wife now travel,,,

On a scale of 1 - 10, that video was a solid 47....... =P~

Thanks for posting it Wags! Me & my Wife spent an entire day hanging with Bob at Mopars at the Strip back in `04. Somewhere I have pictures of me IN the HUG when it was in the pits by his trailer. Bob is way cool.... and that car is the reason for my Barracuda fetish today. Awesome video with some classic footage. Awesome.

BTW: Now I know the reason for a radio delete.... it's so you can see where your going!

Bob is a really nice and personable guy, also crazy when it comes to cars. He still likes to drive the wheelstanders whenever (and where ever) can. Took these pictures at a party last November. He tried to do a wheelstand down the driveway, but couldn't get enough traction. Bill Sefton now owns Hemi Underglass.

So are you saying he has the original wheel stander and travels with it and his wife? Or perhaps he will simply display the original car whe done.

Would be a great nest egg if he sold it...How much ya think the fools at BJ auction would pay in a good economy? 6 digits? More?

the orignal hurst wheel stander was a 1964/65 barracuda,,built and driven by bill shrewsberry,.,,some how bill had a falling out with the hurst company,,,i believe bob riggle also worked for hurst at that time, and took over the driving dutys of the wheel stander,, bob was the guy that devloped the braking system that would allow 2 wheel standers to drag side by side,,bill schrewsberry later wen on to build another wheel stander on his own called the LA DART,, ide love to know where he is these days or any of the wheel standing darts,,,first one was a 1965/66,,
the 65 barracuda turned in to the 66 by cutting off the quarter panels and replacing the front sheet metal,,,( should of left it a 65 in my opnion),,then he built a 1967/68 barracuda wheel stander and left the 66 to sit behind his home in ohio to rot away,,,he semi retired some time in the 1970s,,and the name hurst hemi under glass was used on a funny car wheel stander for a short time,, i do not know when why or how bob let the 68 barracuda slip out of his hands,,,in the mid 1980s bob rigle returned to exabition runs,,living in arizona he found another 1966 barracuda,,and bult a copy of the orignal wheel standermexcept using more modern rear end equipment,,just before he retired for good,, some one found by mistake the orignal 1967/68 barracuda wheel stander sitting in a drive way in canada,,,,as far as i know that car is going thru a restoration,,and will probably go to the hot rod hall of fame in the peterson musem,,i have not talked to bob riggle since 2002,,but i do have his home phone number,, he and his wife are now retired and traveling,,, thats all i know

This is a picture of Bob and me at Atlanta back in 2000. He gave me a signed hubcap for my 65 Barracuda! This was published in our club newsletter. I will have to dig deep and find all the pictures I have from then!
