Hey vets. Another slap in the face.

Texas Roadhouse is giving away a free meal to vets. Internet say you can get a voucher good til may 2023. NOT. Went to our closest one about 45 min from home. Got there at 1055. Already a 2 hr wait. Vets leaving in droves. NO VOUCHER. HAVE TO EAT IN. SCREW THEM SMR'S. So we are eating at Applebee's. When I get home I am going to try to contact TRH Corp and tell them what a bunch of dick weeds they are. Another big Corp that would not exist without vets. Congratulations to my fellow vets on Veterans Day. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE. Rick w.

No one owes anyone anything, BUT, if you make someone an offer and they come to collect, then you better come through with it. What they did shows a certain lack of Honor in my books, especially to people who showed Honor when they were asked to do something that they probably didn't really want to do.

As a vet in the USAF it gave me self discipline and an education in Denver Colo. for a year that was great. As I see the kids walking around today and I worked with a lot of them that were never in the Service, discipline is a big factor that a lot of these people lack. After basic training at Tech School in Denver it was just like a job, school from 6 AM to 12 noon. The rest of the day was your time, just be back at 6AM tomorrow.

All 4 branches are definitely unique. I read 100% of Air Force vets have college degrees? Did they mandate courses for promotion or something? We had U of Maryland on base when i was at Subic but my job didn't allow me to go but every other week. One guy tried but the class' fell between guard shifts and he didn't get any sleep. Pulling a 1000-1400 post, then going to class for 4 hours and then pulling the 2200-0400 shift with about 2-3 hours sleep? No way.

I got my 1st degree while in the Army.
Believe it or not, my command encouraged it. When it was time to be at class, that was my duty station for that time. The only time that wasn't the case was when we went to the field. I had to play catch up, but I managed it.
I was lucky enough to be in a relatively peace time Army. There were a few hiccups, Desert Shield/Storm, a deployment to Kosovo, a year in S. Korea all before 9/11.
I was enlisted, but when I earned my Associates degree, the officers acted a little different towards me. By the time I earned my 1st BA they really had an attitude change.
All of that was covered by Army Continuing Education and didn't effect my GI Bill.
It's funny that you mention U of Maryland, when I was in Korea, that was the university that I got a bunch of my gen-ed classes from.
The Army was good to me, I took advantage of everything that was available and I won't apologize for that.
I can't get close to being upset if I don't get some freebie, I got everyone the Army offered when I could.

@gunbunny, if that were my case, I'd be a degree holder for sure. Infantry just wasn't the field to be in for higher learning opportunities in the Corps.

Well Texas Roadhouse did exploit Vets to advertise themselves, that's probably more of an issue than the "freebie".
Then again, it seems to be a fairly common practice these days..
