Hi everyone I’m excited to have finally got a car I’ve wanted for decades - a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340. Taking possession next week so I get to see whether it’s great the way it is or asking me for upgrades. It already has power steering and modern vintage AC which were first priority. I’m told my plan to replace the Edelbrock carburetor (supposedly terrible) with EFI is ill conceived. Because the bolt ons don’t work well without the extra sensors that come with modern car EFI. I am going to set aside the factory hood to replace with one that’s without scoops and pins. Frame connectors and maybe a Tremec 6-speed? Wanting a low RPM highway drive. I was also recently advised that a Tremec swap is preferable to replacing the axle gear because the latter is still involved and costly. My seller has the understanding that this car had a Torqueflight from the factory but if true the Mecum listing in 2018 left that out.
Glad to have found this forum!

Welcome from Texas! Nice score on the Swinger. I just finished a Duster project and put on a Sniper 2 EFI and really like it, but there are a few considerations:
1) You need to be able to install an O2 sensor on one exhaust side 4-6 inches past your collector;
2) You need a high-volume fuel pump to get consistent 55-60 pressure for the EFI. I used Holley's in-tank pump with a built in regulator so I didn't need a return fuel line.
The unit itself doesn't draw a lot of power and the wiring is pretty straightforward.
It runs great on my 350 HP small block - and is really nice on cold mornings, making starting and warmup much less troublesome. But, like everything else on our cars & trucks - it ain't cheap!

Welcome aboard.
Replacing the rear gears, even the whole third member in your 8 3/4 rear axle is a small fraction of the cost of a tremec. The usual highway gear pick without making it slow out of the hole is 3.23:1, but 2.94s and 2.76s are also available if you want a real highway cruiser. If you are dead set on overdrive, you might look into an A500 Torqueflite, It has lower 1st & 2nd gear ratios than you have currently and a serious overdrive 4th gear. I have one in one of my 70 Darts and it cruises at 1800 rpms at 75mph.

Welcome! Start you a build thread in the right section so we can follow along.

Welcome from WI. Beautiful car.

I am a gear swap guy myself. 3 center sections to choose from. Taking your time is about 2hrs. If you are set on low rpm cruising, make sure you dont over do it and lug the motor, not sure what parts are in there

Nice '70 Swinger - sure looks an awful lot like the one in this poster!
