High School Rides

-
I bought this when I was 14(saved up cash from a few years). 3 months after I bought it the engine blew. So at age 15 I completely rebuilt my 350 and threw on as many bolt on edelbrock parts as possible. I sold it right before I went to college due to the fact that the tranny took 9 seconds to go into drive and it got 3 mpg... so it had to go.

You guys should feel lucky!!

Hey Dave, at least you had something to drive.
My daily "ride" to school were my shoes. I walked to and from school from kindergarten all the way through high school.

I could drive my parents '65 Pontiac Bonneville when I needed a car for a date, but I didn't get my own car ('64 Oldsmobile Cutlass) until after I graduated.

before I got into the Mopar scene...

my 72 Camaro SS 396 4 speed

I didn't have my own car. My dad bought a new Chevy Suburban. So I drove his 64 Olds Dynamic 88 when I had gas money. It had a 394 in it. what a tank holes in the trunk. Got kind of dusty we live on a dirt road, but it had a nice big back seat.:D

Bought my first car with my graduation money 67 Mercury comet with a 289 in it.

i drove a chevy vega, was in primer for end of 11th, senior year was hugger orange. Built small block on spray, 10 point cage, 4 speed

also drove a duster, amx, 74 datsun truck, roadrunner, cuda....

Ha, I had a 67 Ford Custom 500, two door post car with a 289, all stock. I had about 10 cars before that but they weren't street legal and mostly were junk. After I totalled the Ford I had a 64 Dodge 330 sedan with a slant and a 3 on the tree. Never could get the heater to quit leaking so it was sans heat. I nearly froze to death in that car as I lived in Baltimore until just after I graduated.

no pics but i was an 89 firebird formula. i had alot of fun in that car and i miss it. i just sold it over the summer. i think ill buy another when i get the chance, maybe in better shape on the outside though. i got it for 700 bucks ccause it had a few dents from an accident.

69 chrysler imperial lebaron 2 door hardtop ,1 of 2,871 built. 4 3/4 bolt pattern,440 magnum, power everything ,black on black on black. completely original down to the fender skirts in the trunk and factory 600 1850s holley.bought it from a cool old black dude for 250 bucks because the ignition switch would stick and keep the starter engaged, it had 38,000 miles on it and the guy i bought it from was the original owner and had the window sticker, a pile of sales brochures and manuals. to this day i still kick myself in the *** for letting it go.i traded it straight across for my first b-body dodge in 1991,which was a 70 coronet 500 383 4 speed car. pics arent mine but is exactly like it minus the color.

Great thread and cool cars. I love the old photo scans.

Here is my '69 Roadrunner 383 4speed. It was actually my second Roadrunner but cars were pretty cheap back in the late 70's. I remember it was original paint but a little rusty in the quarters and needed a clutch so was $400. The 383 got tired so I put in a beefed up 440 from a 68 Charger, fixed the body and got it repainted. I drove that car everyday for nearly 10 years. I still have the original Roadrunner shift knob from that car in my Barracuda today. I think I was about 19 in the first picture. I looked like a baby!

1st car bought in 1974 for $400 when I was still 15. 4 bald tire, been thru a fence, took the 273 hipo out of sisters formula S and rebuilt it and put in my car, then broke 2 - 7 1/4 rears before getting the 8 3/4 out of her car, (hehehe)

traded it for 69 Roadrunner that had a 440 & auto (was 383 4 speed from factory)
drove it my senior year

Cragers are off the cuda, got to keep them when we traded

When I was 16 (1975), one of my cousins kept flunking his driver test so he made me his driver, we shopped around and found a '68 Chevelle 396 SS, like new, 30k on the clock for $1,200. I got to drive that during the week for myself, and drove him around on the weekends. When he finally got his license he rolled the car! Two weeks later an uncle sold me his '68 Charger RT (440 Column shift 727) for $200, it burned oil, had over 100k on the clock and would have kicked the crap out of that gorgeous Chevelle SS, been Mopar ever since!

Just a couple more...........This was my first car I bought in 1977 at 15 yrs old. (before in green) Worked on it for a year before getting my licence.

Had a weak period of time with the 69 427 Vette :eek:ops:. Regained my sences with the 500 in stroker Cuda though.

One thing I didn't do which i regret was take more pictures of the cars I had.
This was my first - got it in my senior year 1983 for $650 as it sat. Needed to put a tranny in it.
73cuda1983original.jpg

Replaced it after 6 months with this since it had met its demise with a fire hydrant.

Class of 2008 got my duster(in avatar )for my birthday in the summer of 06 for my sixteenth birthday from my pops (he passed last October) drove it to school with no license til I finally got one in early 07 love it to death wish my dad was here to drive it with the new motor and 4 speed swap. Love ya dad thanks for the greatest gift a 16 year old kid could ask for

Ps it had paint on it when we bought it lol

No pics, but I split time between a 1962 Rambler 4-door...pink, with a white top, and a 1953 Farmall super M

wow...most of you had really cool cars in HS. I had to settle for a Mazda B2000 pickup. It was reliable and good on gas....it also had no radio or power anything, but it got me back and forth to where I needed to be.
