Interesting.

Just had a couple of ladies stop by the house who thought the previous owners still lived here.

They informed me that tomorrow, between 3-3:30, there will be a funeral procession going by the house, led by the local fire department for a deceased former member of the community.

Jack, as he was called, was mentally handicapped and used to sit in his window in his house and wave to everyone who went by, saying "Hi, Ya!" The ladies were going door to door handing out cardboard signs saying "Hi, Ya!" to hold as the procession roles past.

I'll be out on the mower at the time, so I'll shut down the mower, take off my hat, and hold up the sign for someone who touched the community so much.

How Kool Robert, hold the sign in one hand and a beer in the other!!!! Oh, by the way when you get done with your lawn come on over and catch mine while the mower is out!!! LOL

Maybe I'm just an old softy, but I was damn near in tears when the ladies handed me a copy of Jack's obituary with a hand-written note at the bottom asking folks to hold the signs as his body roles past.

Tells of a person's legacy that he touched so many that a community is willing to do this for him.

And when all is said and done, that's all we really leave to our loved ones and those who know us. Our legacy. How many people we touch along the way in ways we don't even know at the time, but when folks come together to pay respects that's all they'll talk about and the biggest thing they'll remember.

Very well said Robert, when our time has come, we leave everything behind but its our legacy and memories that are cherished and remembered.
Sounds like an awesome community!

Seems like a small favor to ask for someone that had such a large heart. I for one would have any sign they asked for. It just seems like the right thing to do. i will be standing beside you.

It was nice to be a part of this.

You could hear the firetrucks coming for miles, touching off the siren and blasting the horn to those who were holding the signs.

As the procession rolled past, the lead firetruck blast his horn and the folks in the procession were waving to all of us holding signs. The hearse had the same hand painted cardboard sign in the side window saying "Hi, Ya!" to all us along the route.

What a special way to pay tribute to someone.
