My ballast resistor was burning hot and smoking,my duster wouldn't start turning the ignition switch.none of the engine wiring harness got burnt up or smoked.l did the electronic ignition conversion recently.could l have wired wrong somewhere? I did follow the instructions.

Also getting no power when turning the key or try starting from relay.it won't even temp to start at all.l get nothing at all.l charged up the battery

It could have even been fingerprint grease burning off from where it was assembled. It was NEW, right? It's normal for them to get very hot. They reduce battery voltage 12+ down to around 8 or so, so there's a lot goin on there.

Oh ok l gotcha it was new

Then it's likely ok. Measure the voltage at the coil + with the ignition on and see what you get. Should be around 8V ignition on and 10+ with the starter engaged. It would be battery voltage, but the starter knocks a volt or two off when it's engaged.

Ok my duster won't turn over with key or from starter relay. My starter isn't engagin l get no click or nothing

New ballast resistors can smoke, but sounds like you have a wiring issue also.

Do lights, horn or anything else electrical work?

If other electrical stuff like lights work, the fusible link is likely ok.

So it doesn’t crank at all now?

A few questions:

Did it ever crank over since the conversion?

Is this a Mopar electronic ignition conversion, or something else?

When you turn the key on, does the ballast resistor still get hot?

Its the mopar electronic ignition. First time it hasn't crank since conversion.Yah the ballast resistor gets hot when key is on.

Did the conversion kit include a new coil or are you using the stock coil? I would at least disconnect the coil, positive side and see if the ballast gets hot.

I'm using a accel super stock coil and ok l could do that see if it does
