I know I'm right....
polished crank journal in 2 spots, took a scotchbright disk to knock the ridges down and buffed to almost a stainless refelction, smooth as I could feel, put it all back together with 5 qts new oil and a new filter. Started right up and sounded better than ever, smooth and quiet. Son took it around the block and we called it good. Drove it 7 miles down the freeway to friends house and I get a call 9:30, "Dad, its knocking again", F.....can you get it home? No....Drive down and there is NO OIL in the pan, no leaks...WTF. Started it, knocking like an impact gun on a L hand threaded lugnut. WE limped it 100 yds and then smke billowed out the tailpipe...Oh, I guess it burned it...Parked it, called the cash for cars and got $250 for it. My theory is oil pressure related, perhaps it was stuffed with bearing bits and just cooked the walls. Never an oil light and it never even got hot. Done. Lesson learned.
