An old friend called and is giving me a 73 or 74 (not sure which) Scamp as a donor car for mine....He's getting it as a package deal with a real clean 74 Dart he recently bought....He doesn't know much about the Scamp except that it has a 318....How do Identify the V-8 K Frame?

Thanks!

If it has a 318 in it, I would assume it has a V8 K.

73 or 74 would have the "spool mount" motor mounts.
As you look at the K frame, facing "over the grille", the spool mounts will look like 2 ears about 4 inches (5?) apart. A pair on each side maybe 2 foot directly aside from each other. the ears will have slots cut in them to accept the bolt for the motor mount and the ear part is for the retention of the large washer that locks the whole mess into place. the mounts will run longways with the drive line and the v8 mounts are noted for their being almost inline from each other from a side to side perspective, elevation and directionally speaking.

Thanks all!

I heard something about a washer being tacked somewhere on the V-8 K-Frames for the factory to quickly identify them during builds....Any truth to that?

There were "coins" welded to K-members that have two stamped numbers on them, they are the last two digits of the part numbers. Mostly on 70 and up cars.
Example: '70 e-body K-frame numbers

**** *10 - /6 early
2962 012 - 314/340/383 early
2962 014 - HEMI early
3466 477 - 440 early

3583 052 - T/A
**** *70 - /6 late
3583 072 - 318/340/383 late
3583 074 - 440 late
3583 076 - HEMI late

some b'cast sheets indicate 3583 052 - on late (post T/A) 340 4bbl & 383 4bbl cars

There was a washer welded on the front of some 340 K members.

Looks like this, 2 mounts the same height. The notches in the mounts are approx. 13 5/8 inches centre to centre apart.
