I am ready to clean up the dist. that was in my donor engine. The only book I have for the year of the engine is a med. size Hayes. It shows that there is a retaining ring at the top of the shaft. This is inside the well you see when you remove the rotor. I think I can see the retaining ring but HOW do you remove it?
Tag on the dist. has these numbers on it:

27 6
3874115
Thanks,
Mike

Your distributor was built the 26 week of 1976,the ring can be removed by using a small pair of needle nose pliers,or 2 small pocket screw drivers, mrmopartech

Yup, the retainer clip ends need to be spread to release it from the center shaft. If the methods mentioned don't work, try a small pair of snap ring pliers.

I have picked up a pair of surgical hemostats that work really well for that task....

Each of your threads help. Does any one know where I could get extra retaining rings. My luck says it will go flying when I remove it.
THANKS for the help,
Mike

You might feel old when they ask you at McDonald's if you need help with your tray.
