I have to replace a 2 inch piece that is missing from my console. What is the best way to match the console's grain pattern after I apply the plastic epoxy?

I used Duplicolor truck bedliner coating in the past sprayed from a distance very lightly in a rattle can. They sell it at Autozone and Advance Auto. Looks great you would never know it.

After I got the epoxy sanded down to shape I put a layer of the gel type super glue over the repair area. Once it had cured a while I ponced/stippled it with a piece of scotch bright pad. A little sanding the peeks and edges after it was completely cured.
It aint perfect but close enough that no one would notice the repair.

good old silly putty or something similar will hold the grain and you can press it gently into the epoxy as it begins to set up. timing is tough but it does work. use an existing piece, of course, to get the pattern into the putty first. oh, play-doh is good too.
