There's a few things, such as ebay, heavy lathe items, although "not that heavy." These EG empty headstock casting, could EASILY be packed up and shipped UPS or maybe even USPS

But the seller insists on "local pickup only" which means I'd have to contact someone to pick this up and ship it.

Who, what, how, is a

reputable companies?

procedure?

protection against rip off?

Typical cost?

I've no idea how to approach this or even if it's worth it money wise

At the salvage we used "will call" tickets. We arranged the shipper, the other party boxed/crated the item, the truck picked it up at their location and delivered it to us. We paid all the charges directly to the freight company.

We contracted with the company, sent the paperwork to the shipping party and they called the shipper when the item was ready to be picked up.

your best bet would be to see if a local fabo member could assist-- I'm not familiar with companies that go to a place & pack/ship other 's items-- unless a moving company. as for price that will all depend on the items size shape/weight. Lawrence

Trucking companies, cartage companies, package companies. Depends on weight, and volume.
The will pick up, and deliver to you. From anywhere in the country, to anywhere in the country.

I second the FABO member idea. Maybe there's a member who would be willing to do it reasonably. One you can trust.

X3 on having a local FABO member picking it up. Then ship to you.....

Works great with "friends" here
