Talking with my dad about storage units in his area. $200/month for a 10x20. Am I crazy to feel that’s just insane to store a car? Or just one of those “it is what it is” type of things? In 10 years time the storage cost would be the cost of the car.

In Missouri?

I rent a big 2 stall garage for $600 a year. ($25/stall/month)
It's probably at least 30x30 with easy room for 2 cars and parts storage. It is insulated as well. Electric lights and a few outlets. Electric is included in the rent but I don't abuse that. May be plug in a battery charger for a couple days but that's about it.

I assume it’s not a traditional storage unit but a former shop type of thing?

3 of them were built to store files and records for a business in town. So much is stored online now they had a unit that was empty. I knew the owners.

Great find

That's a dang good deal.

I did "comps" last year for my shop/storage facility.

12x20 is hard to find. It allows you to open one door, though.
I have 10 of those.

I also have no provision against working on your car(s), like almost all of the other places do.

10x20 in this area is averaging $300/month.

Mine are going up to $85.

I have three 20x20 for $100.

20x22 are going up to $115.

Needless to say, I have a waiting list.

Waiting list. I bet you do.

I’m paying 168 for a 10x20 non climate controlled. If I wanted climate controlled, it’d be double that here

I was paying 120.00 monthly for a 10x20 unit. Had two of them filled with car and parts after moving before building my shop. Now putting that money to better use.

My son and I frequently spoke about how these units generate cash for owners. Metal building, no utilities, filling a need for customers with 200+ units at this one sight alone.

That’s exactly what I pad for my 10 x 20 for 3 years, but that ended in August of ‘22 when we bought our new place, so assuming prices have gone up since then ……That’s not a bad price.
