How not to damage new paint on bolts

-
Wow.

I should hope that if you have a garage-you know, the place where you run your car-that you would have some form of ventilation. Like maybe an overhead door you can open...
This is just a me personally things I guess talking from someone who only has a 2-car garage. I rarely If Ever I usually never start anything inside the garage. I only use it to store my toys not to run them in. We park our daily drivers in the driveway. Again this is me personally, my wife is an environmental engineer, witch pretty much leaves me up the creek for forgetting crazy with chemicals.
And trust me if I could I would. But I can't Cuz I don't have enough room and it's too intrusive, in a small garage.
My story about trying to put my harmonic balancer in with Thanksgiving turkey is only 3 years old now. Trust me I've tried things. But she seems to catch me every time!

I read some where use plastic sandwich bags over the bolt head before tightening. Haven't tried it though.

I had reasonably good luck using thin plastic grocery store bags between the bolt head and socket.

I will investigate plastic socket liners though.

I've always wondered how they painted the fenders at the factory, especially on cars that had bolted on emblems.

On the car.

The factory painted hood, fenders, deck lid assembled, door hinges bolted to the car, doors off.

Bolt on emblems are easy enough to get to with splash shields, etc, out of the way.

Is that the same as spline drive?

Flank drive sockets have a inward curve to them so the socket meets the bolt head or nut on the "flank" or side instead of the corners.

All of my hardware has been replated. I glassbeaded all original hardware and sent it out for plating. Im still going to paint the bolts because plated bolts will still rust in short time.

Not if they are cad plated, and you can slill paint them

When I put on painted fender tag, I put plastic wrap over it. Then poked screws thru wrap to tighten. Then I could paint the new screws with no mess on tags, and when dry peel off plastic.
